Well, LeBron James isn’t even in the top 10 to win in the odds list to win the MVP, and that is simply a sign that this bet on James is going to be as far-fetched as his son Bronny to win the Rookie of the Year award. However, we are seeing some impressive signs that LeBron may be well due for a run at the said award now more than ever.
How Many Times Has LeBron Won the MVP?
It is actually surprising that the legendary LeBron James is still actually playing in the NBA at this point in time. At the age of 39, he should already be seeing his stats dwindle down the stretch and have his minutes go down with his fatigue and health already being a big issue in the game. But no, all of that has been the opposite for the 39-year-old star.
James has won the NBA Finals four times in his career, named Finals MVP four times, and four times as the league MVP as well, winning that season award four out of five years in a row. The last time James won the MVP was in the 2013 NBA season, where the Miami Heat clinched its back-to-back NBA title as well.
Since then, a lot of new players have gone to find ways to win the MVP – and LeBron James has been a candidate for most of the years, but never been close to winning it again ever since. But will this season be a different thing to look out for considering that the Lakers are starting to show some promise on their chances of winning this season.
Why LeBron Should Be Your Pick for the MVP?
At this point, it cannot be denied that James really has been a great player in his own right, and many people are actually keen to bet on someone who’s making the game look easy night in and night out. If you haven’t checked for some time now, there are a lot of betting markets on James this season, including one to win the MVP award. If you are keen to bank in some cold, hard, promising cash by the end of the season, make sure to check out GambleSpot’s Parlay and Odds Calculator to get a grasp of your potential winnings by the end of the day.
Here’s why LeBron should be a pick for your MVP bets this year:
No Slowing Down the King
LeBron James has been one of the best players in the league over the years. The 2023-24 season has been really a fine look so far, and he has been really productive in terms of scoring big games at an efficient level, showing how well he deserves recognition for his impressive game.
So far, James averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds on 54% shooting from the field, including 41% from three. Those numbers mirror the same he’s had in his second run for Cleveland, which says a lot about his impeccable consistency in the game, and it certainly proves that James isn’t slowing down. He is on the trend of pushing towards the bigger picture of being the most consistent player the league has seen in decades.
The Lakers on the Rise
If you are not impressed, the Lakers nearly got swept in the 2024 NBA Playoffs at the hands of the Denver Nuggets. Sure, that’s a mere feat for a team that is stacked like Los Angeles, but that says a lot about the Lakers are one of the few teams who are expected to make some waves in the 2024-25 season as well. Under new head coach JJ Redick, it does seem that LeBron is thriving well compared to last year, and we are expecting to see more from his strides now more than ever.
In seven games this season, James has been on a downpour with averages of 21.9 points, 7.7 assists, and 6.9 rebounds, still close to last year with 48.6% shooting from the field and 44.4% from downtown.
Those numbers still look like a promising key player in the rotation – and if James doesn’t deserve to be at least considered for the MVP, then that’s going to be a nuisance.
One Last Run?
The last time James won the MVP was in the 2012-13 season. That year, he averaged 26.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game on 56.5% shooting from the field and 40.6% from three. That has been quite a spectacle as James went on to lead Miami to its second title in a row, including the Finals MVP as well. Those numbers don’t really differ much to his previous season’s stats.
This year isn’t that far behind either, and we can all argue that James really deserves to be recognized with that fifth MVP win. At this point, there’s still plenty of games to play in the 2024-25 season, and James is definitely making his way to get back on top and prove that he can actually deliver on the big stage as well.
But who knows, maybe we get to see James put up some good performances and continue to lead the Lakers to a bigger success like they did in 2020. Considering how competitive the Western Conference is right now, James leading the Lakers to the playoffs can be quite a worthy consideration for the MVP.
Can LeBron Win the MVP this Year?
So that begs the question, can James actually win the MVP award by the end of the season? Well, there are a lot of big names who are performing at a high level right now, such as Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Luka Doncic just to mention a few. This just means that James will have to put up his big value in the game if he is going to have a chance at the MVP.
But at this point, nothing is impossible for LeBron James. He’s been there on many different years, and while he doesn’t need to win it all, adding one more to his current hardware would not hurt to his legacy at this point in time.
