Russell Westbrook Joins Jokic & Murray in Denver for a Title Chase

After the Los Angeles Clippers and the Utah Jazz agreed to a sign-and-trade deal that sent Westbrook to Utah, the latter star was waived by the team and went on to sign a deal with the Denver Nuggets, which sees him in tandem with four-time MVP Nikola Jokic and sharpshooter Jamal Murray. The 2023 NBA champions are expected to make a sweeping run next season with the hopes of securing its second league title.

The Los Angeles Clippers have received Kris Dunn in the trade, with the latter agreeing to a three-year, $17 million deal with a team option in the third year. On the other hand, Utah receives the 2030 second-round pick swap, and the rights to center Balsa Koprivica, who was drafted by the Clippers with the 57th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. The Jazz has also provided the team with a $4.3 million cash compensation to add to the trade.

Westbrook gets a fresh reset with the Nuggets in the 2024-25 season, where he is expected to play on the backup role for the team off the bench. He teams up with a promising star in Nikola Jokic, who is coming off an MVP campaign in the previous season after a massive run.

A New Groove for Westbrook

Westbrook came off with his career-low averages in the 2023-24 season, with a stat line of 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. He still shot 45.4% from the field, which notes a promising touch of consistency in his game, but his reduced role in the game has definitely impacted his overall play over the years since moving to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Westbrook took a pay cut in the previous seasons with the hopes of helping the Clippers secure James Harden for long term. But after their first-round exit in the 2024 Playoffs and Paul George’s move to the Philadelphia 76ers, it seems that it was all for nothing even after Westbrook opted into his $4 million contract last month.

In his peak, Westbrook was a promising star in the game, and he holds the record for most triple-doubles in the game with 199, and he can definitely add more to that list. He’s also had a total of four seasons where he averaged a triple-double, with three straight in Oklahoma City. His decline came in 2021 when the Lakers played him to a different role that was not suited to his skill set, which hampered his overall game that led to his trade to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2022-23 season.

The Needs for the Nuggets’ Hopeful Campaign

The Nuggets will definitely benefit having a strong point guard who can call massive plays and take off ball pressure from both Jokic and Murray. Denver has lost both of his core point guards in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Reggie Jackson, who both left for different teams in free agency.

"I think we need some help in the backcourt," Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth said. "We are going to try to continue to identify that and survey the market. We have a roster spot left and I think if we can add a high-level guard, we will be happy with that."

After a Game 7 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Semifinals, it does seem that the Nuggets need some veteran presence in the game with the hopes of bringing its second championship in three years. Who knows, maybe the Nuggets can actually make the most of their chances with Westbrook now taking a bigger role as a play caller.

Ergin Ataman Challenges Boston for World Champions Title

Ergin Ataman Challenges Boston for World Champions Title

The Boston Celtics are the reigning NBA champions for the 2023-24 season. While the issue about Noah Lyles questioning why NBA winners call themselves NBA champions, it is worth noting that Ergin Ataman has now raised the same talk – taking it a step further by challenging the NBA champs to a battle for the world champion title – which doesn’t really exist at this point.

We wall know that the FIBA World Cup and the Olympics are two ways for basketball teams to be named as world champions, but then there’s association basketball where teams composed of players of different nationalities play the game. The NBA is an association, and so is the EuroLeague, which somewhat serves as the Champions League equivalent of basketball in Europe.

Sure, the NBA isn’t actually a world league to begin with, but with players from different countries flocking towards the league over the decades, it is fair enough to say that being a world champion in the NBA does make sense in a way considering the fact that no team in the league has no foreign player at this point.

Ataman’s Bold Claims

Panathinaikos finished with a 23-11 record to earn the second seed in the EuroLeague before beating the likes of Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel), Fenerbahce Beko (Turkey), and top-seeded Real Madrid (Spain) to win the EuroLeague title, which says a lot about how Ataman is confident that they deserve to be called world champions much like the Celtics do.

In a quick succession as soon as the Celtics won the NBA title, the EuroLeague was quick to throw shade by posting a photo of Panathinaikos on social media, saying that the Celtics should “Beat this team first”.

“They see themselves very highly. They want incredible numbers to come and play a game in Europe. You are not the world champion,” said Ataman. “If you want to get the world champion title, come and beat us, the EuroLeague champion. If you are so confident, I say come and beat us in OAKA.”

Ataman is one of the best coaches in the history of basketball, especially in EuroLeague, and it cannot be denied that his bold comments do really prove a lot of things, especially with the fact that Panathinaikos has a strong case to begin with.

World Champions of What?

A team that wins the championship of a US-based league is definitely not a world champion to begin with. That’s what US sprinter Noah Lyles believes to be quite the point, and being a 13-gold medal winner seems to be a good point for his claim in which the NBA doesn’t deserve to crown its winner as a world champion.

“You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head,” said Lyles. “World champion of what? The United States? Don’t get me wrong. I love the U.S. — at times — but that ain’t the world. That is not the world. We are the world.”

An argument can be made given how the NBA is the best competition in basketball for the whole world, and no one can deny the fact that it indeed stands out among other leagues in the globe, which says a lot about how the standard in the game remains to be in question.

For now, the Celtics can actually consider taking the challenge and bringing its squad to Europe for a massive clash with Panathinaikos to settle this argument once and for all.

Andy Reid Commends Leadership from Mahomes and Kelce

Andy Reid Commends Leadership from Mahomes and Kelce

The Kansas City Chiefs have begun to rally on its campaign to climb the big stage of the NFL with the hopes of bringing a three-peat into the fold. Head coach Andy Reid believes that the Chiefs’ leadership in Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce has really come in handy in bringing their game to the next level, which led to massive wins as well.

So far, the Chiefs have become the top dog in the league and have certainly outlived a number of super teams assembled in the game as well. Still, the Chiefs have done a great job of cementing their place as one of the leading contenders in the league. Reid believes that this kind of leadership will be key to their success in the game as the NFL season brews hot with a lot of promising battles set to unfold now more than ever.

As the Chiefs prepare to defend their title and seek a promising feat in the three-peat, it does seem that the leadership by Mahomes and Kelce will definitely have a promising impact than most people think, especially when they now wage war in the coming season.

A Leadership Like No Other

Every year is its own year, and it means that there are plenty of opportunities for the Chiefs to build on a promising campaign that many fans are hoping for. For Reid, he believes that the drive given by the leadership of Mahomes and Kelce pays off well in inspiring the team’s hopes of winning at this point.

"Yeah, they are great with it," said Reid about the leadership of Mahomes and Kelce. "That's what I was saying before we had the (summer) break. I appreciate that leadership, Chris Jones, (Nick) Bolton, I mean these guys that have been around here, they do a nice job. When players start helping players out and helping them understand what's going on, normally you have a pretty good thing going and these guys, we're lucky to have that leadership."

Success Under Andy Reid

Reid has been a successful coach in his own right since taking over Kansas City in 2013. As of the time of writing, Reid has had a 128-51 record with the team, and his leadership has bore fruit with only one missed playoff campaign and a total of eight AFC West titles. If you are not impressed, ever since Mahomes took over as the lead player, Reid has pushed the Chiefs to a Conference Championship Game in all previous six seasons.

Of course, that goes along with three impressive Lombardi trophies, which has been quite the story of their dominance in the NFL at this point. We all know that the sustained leadership in the team is clearly in a promising spot with the three-peat theirs for the taking. Of course, this leadership group would not reflect anything well if there isn’t a promising man at the helm in Andy Reid.

"They go 100 miles an hour, and they make everybody around them go 100 miles an hour," Reid said of his leadership group. "While the coaches are kicking them a little bit, the players are kicking them, and that peer pressure, there's nothing like that."

The leadership in the team is quite impressive, and it is vital to keep everyone else focused on the big goal that the team has been working towards to. No one can deny the fact that the Chiefs have a strong group that can actually pull off a massive victory on the big stage of the Super Bowl.

Casino Players Left Behind About $24 Million Worth of Vouchers This Year in Vegas Alone
July 19th, 20245 mins

Casino Players Left Behind About $24 Million Worth of Vouchers This Year in Vegas Alone

Unclaimed vouchers rule in Sin City, as the Nevada Gaming Control Board issued a statement that as of last month, casino players have left behind nearly $25 million in vouchers at the city’s numerous casinos. While some casinos donate these vouchers to charities, casinos overall still see the vouchers as the owners' property for 90 to 180 days - and it's illegal to touch them, as an unlucky casino player found out.

During the fiscal year ending on June 30, Nevada casino players left behind an astonishing $24.4 million in unclaimed casino vouchers, according to data from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Casinos retained 25% of the unclaimed voucher value, translating to $6.1 million in monthly gross revenue. Meanwhile, the Nevada Gaming Commission received 75%, or $18.3 million, for the state's general fund.

This figure is slightly lower than the previous fiscal year's record of $25.8 million but higher than the $22 million in unspoken for casino vouchers from fiscal year 2022. Since the law's enactment in 2011, nearly half of the $183 million gathered by the state has been amassed after 2020, correlating with rising gross gaming revenues during this period.

Where do they go? The mystery of bulk unclaimed vouchers

In Nevada, a significant portion of these unclaimed vouchers is believed to be for small change. In many cases, vouchers worth less than a dollar are not redeemed by gamblers, primarily because the effort to cash them in is not deemed worthwhile (it seems that nobody is willing to wait in a long queue for chump change). Many major casinos in Nevada have stopped dispensing coins for vouchers less than a dollar at ATMs or ticket redemption machines. This practice began due to a coin shortage during the early days of the pandemic and has continued, likely due to the increased profit from unclaimed vouchers.

But not all casinos in Nevada pocket the unclaimed change as their rightful profit. Some, like M Resort, Cosmopolitan, and Wynn Las Vegas, offer patrons the option to donate their change to various charities. Flamingo and Caesars Palace, meanwhile, contribute unclaimed change to Meals on Wheels. However, Boyd Gaming, one of the largest operators in the Las Vegas Valley, continues to dispense coins from its machines.

The legal standing of abandoned vouchers

Legally, even if a slot voucher is left behind in a casino, it remains the property of the original gambler for a period of 90 to 180 days. This policy ensures that the rightful owner has a chance to claim their winnings before the casino can collect the voucher. Some gamblers may mistakenly believe they are leaving their vouchers for less fortunate individuals, but in reality, they may be causing more trouble than intended. Sadly, the "finder's keepers" mentality does not apply to abandoned vouchers in Nevada casinos.

In 2004, for example, A.J. Werling was convicted of misdemeanor fraud in Colorado for using a 76-cent credit voucher left in a slot machine. Werling said that he inserted his own $20 bill, unaware of the existing credit. Despite this, he was fined $500 and required to complete 24 hours of community service. Reflecting on the incident in 2017, Werling expressed his frustration to KDVR-TV/Denver, stating that it's been a nightmare. It's just 76 cents, and he still has to deal with the repercussions for jobs, apartments, essentially anything requiring a background check. Werling continues to contest the fairness of his gambling theft conviction.

Its impact on the state's revenue

The revenue generated from unclaimed vouchers plays a significant role in the state's finances. The collected funds are directed to the state's general fund, which supports various public services and infrastructure projects. This steady stream of income, boosted by the increasing gross gaming revenue in recent years, shows the importance of unclaimed vouchers in Nevada's economy.

The $24.4 million in unclaimed vouchers left behind by Nevada gamblers during the last fiscal year highlights a fascinating aspect of the state's gaming industry. While the policy changes initiated during the pandemic contributed to this trend, the ongoing impact on the state's revenue and casino profits remains substantial. As long as the current practices continue, unclaimed vouchers will likely remain a notable part of the dynamics of the gaming industry of Nevada, benefiting both casino operators and the state's general fund.

The Debate Rages on for Skill Games in Pennsylvania as New Taxation Rulings Still to be Decided

The Debate Rages on for Skill Games in Pennsylvania as New Taxation Rulings Still to be Decided

We reported a while back that skill games in Pennsylvania are embroiled in a legal debate and have yet to be classified as casino games, despite some proponents that argue that they are closer to games of skill rather than chance. But PA's lawmakers still haven't come to a decision and continue to be divided into two segments: those who believe that skill games should be taxed higher, and those who don't - and it all depends on how skill games will be recognized by the PA Supreme Court.

Pennsylvania's online casino site operators may be frustrated, but the tax on skill games in the state appears unlikely to become law soon. The debate over regulating game machines, now commonplace in many Pennsylvania gas stations, bars, and other locations, has been ongoing since the start of the year. Just as a potential resolution seemed within reach through a proposed taxation structure, a new court case has stalled any progress.

If you must remember, skill games in PA came under renewed scrutiny recently because some lawmakers wanted them taxed just like slot games found in casino establishments. State lawmakers and regulatory bodies continue to debate their legality, because these games, which require players to demonstrate skill to win, are popular in convenience stores and bars in PA, but their legal status remains ambiguous. Proponents argue that skill games provide entertainment and economic benefits, while critics claim they skirt gambling laws and reduce state lottery revenues. Recent legislative efforts aim to clarify regulations, potentially leading to stricter controls or outright bans. As discussions continue, the future of skill games in Pennsylvania hangs in the balance, impacting players and business owners alike. But the debate rages on, and the Supreme Court must make the ultimate decision.

Regulation hinges on the decision of the Supreme Court

Lawmakers in Pennsylvania are divided into two distinct camps regarding the taxation of skill games. State Governor Josh Shapiro, for instance, had come up with a 42% tax revenue in his budget address last February. Meanwhile, Senator Gene Yew has suggested a significantly lower 16% tax levy, which is currently under discussion by the Gaming Oversight Committee.

However, as of the moment, all references to the tax on skill games have been stripped from the Fiscal Year budget bill of 2024/2025. This decision comes as lawmakers wait for a ruling from the Supreme Court of PA, which is reviewing a prior Commonwealth Court decision that skill games do not constitute gambling.

A ruling that leaves Pennsylvania lawmakers waiting with bated breath

The forthcoming ruling will provide crucial direction for lawmakers who are currently grappling with complaints about cities like Philadelphia taking unilateral action by issuing a complete ban on all skill games.

In addition, the ruling will help determine the most appropriate taxation system. Governor Shapiro's proposal, which is similar to the 54% tax imposed on slot machines, may seem excessive if skill games are not classified as gambling. Conversely, if the Supreme Court confirms that skill games are indeed not gambling, Senator Yew's tax concession of 16% might be considered more reasonable.

As the Keystone State awaits the court's decision, it remains unclear which faction will ultimately prevail.

Washington, D.C. Fans Rejoice: BetMGM Launches New Sports Betting Platform Across The District

Sports betting fans across Washington, D.C. now have a new sports betting platform in their midst, as BetMGM has just announced the launch of its latest sports betting site for all District residents, joining other neighboring states like Virginia and Maryland.

BetMGM, a premier name in sports betting and iGaming, has broadened its mobile sports betting reach to encompass the entire Washington, D.C. area. This marks a significant expansion from its previous limitation to a two-block radius around Nationals Park, where it operates a sportsbook. Now, sports enthusiasts across the district can enjoy BetMGM sports betting as well as benefit from rewards linked to Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Resorts destinations.

This development follows in the heels of the D.C. Council's recent approval of the Fiscal Year 2025 budget, which included a stipulation to open the virtual sports betting sector. Despite this broader accessibility, BetMGM retains its exclusivity within the two-block area around Nationals Park due to its ongoing multi-year collaboration with the Washington Nationals.

BetMGM proud of offering broader and better experiences to sports fans and casino gamers

Adam Greenblatt, the Chief Executive Officer of BetMGM, is happy with this new offering: "After three years of providing unparalleled, omnichannel experiences to sports fans and supporting the D.C. metropolitan community through our partnership with the Washington Nationals, (we are glad to report that) fans can now bet on their favorite teams with BetMGM across the District with our award-winning mobile app."

With the launch of mobile sports betting operations in Washington, D.C., along with its neighbors Virginia and Maryland, BetMGM is all set to make a major economic impact in the area as its platform creates local jobs and significantly contributes to tax revenue. As a matter of fact, the company has been actively investing in community-centric programs, including the Capitol Riverfront Friday Night Concert Series, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, and the MGM Resorts Supplier Diversity Mentorship Program, among others.

The outstanding features

One of the standout features of BetMGM's service is its integration with Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Rewards. This integration allows users to redeem their gameplay for experiences at various Marriott Bonvoy and MGM Resorts properties all over the country, including Borgata in New Jersey and the MGM Grand and Bellagio in Las Vegas.

To attract new customers, BetMGM offers a first bet promotion of up to $1,500 which is paid back in bonuses (it is worth noting that this offer is not available in NV, ON, and PR. Bonus bets are also non-withdrawable and are set to expire in a week). Current users can find additional offers in the promotions tab of the app.

Currently, BetMGM operates in 29 markets, offering both retail and mobile betting services. The BetMGM app is available for download throughout the D.C. Metropolitan area on both iOS and Android platforms, and it can also be accessed via desktop at www.betmgm.com.

BetMGM's responsible expansion across multiple markets

As BetMGM continues to grow and conquer new markets, it places a strong emphasis on responsible gambling and the knowledge that comes with it. The company offers resources to help customers gamble responsibly, including the GameSense program, which was developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation and exclusively licensed to MGM Resorts. This program is actually integrated into BetMGM's desktop and mobile platforms, providing customers with the same responsible gambling tools they are accustomed to at various MGM Resorts properties.

The Highest-Grossing Residencies in Vegas Ever: From Celine Dion’s $386 Million to U2’s $244.5 Million
July 18th, 20244 mins

The Highest-Grossing Residencies in Vegas Ever: From Celine Dion’s $386 Million to U2’s $244.5 Million

Las Vegas has always had its fair share of musical greats, starting with Elvis Presley in the 70s to Bruno Mars in the new millennium. Most of these legendary performers have had Vegas residencies that stretched for years at a time, with tickets passing the hundred-dollar mark. It's no surprise, then, that the Las Vegas Review-Journal has published its list of the highest-grossing residencies in Las Vegas over the years – a list that includes stellar acts like Cher, Elton John, U2, and many more.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal has released its much-anticipated list of the top 10 Las Vegas residencies of all time. And it turns out that compiling such a list is no small feat, as financial details of these concerts are often closely guarded secrets, with venues, partner resorts, and concert promoters like AEG Presents and Live Nation keeping mum on the specifics.

The much-awaited list contains a bevy of legendary performers

The Review-Journal based its findings on sales data tracked globally on the Instagram of @TouringMedia, in conjunction with reports made by Billboard magazine. However, our friends at Casino.org were unable to verify any publication of the gross earnings in concerts at @TouringMedia, and Billboard typically only publishes figures from the few venues in Las Vegas that voluntarily disclose this information.

But one notable exclusion from the list is Adele, whose residency at Caesars Palace is still ongoing. However, the list does feature Bruno Mars, who continues to perform at Park MGM. According to the Review-Journal, "Weekends with Adele" is projected to gross an impressive $220 million by its conclusion in November. Should this prediction hold true, Adele's residency would surpass Elton John's "The Red Piano" and potentially alter the current rankings, depending on Bruno Mars' earnings until September 1.

A star-studded series of residencies, with total earnings amounting to the hundred millions

In March, Playstar (the online casino) published a similar list, but the Review-Journal's recent publication has refocused attention on these lucrative residencies, particularly following the end of Lady Gaga's residencies at Park MGM. The newspaper was able to combine the grosses from these shows, placing Lady Gaga in the eighth spot with total earnings of $110 million.

The Review-Journal’s detailed list of the top 10 Las Vegas residencies

It started off with Celine Dion in first place with $386.7 million for "A New Day...," (Caesars Palace, 2003 to 2007, 192 shows and 2.8 million tickets), and she was 2nd place again for having earned $296.2 million from 2011 to 2019 for "Celine," which sold a total of 1.7 million tickets and had 427 shows. This was followed in 3rd place by U2, which garnered $244.5 million for "U2:UV Achtung Baby" at the Sphere from 2023 to 2024, with a total of 40 shows and 663,000 tickets. Elton John landed in 4th with earnings of $169.7 million for "The Red Piano" at Caesars Palace from 2004 to 2009, where he had 247 shows and 982,000 tickets. The 5th runner-up was Britney Spears, who earned $137.7 million for "Piece of Me" at Planet Hollywood, and in 6th place, we have Elton John again, earning $136.4 million for "The Million Dollar Piano" at Caesars Palace in 2011 to 2018.

Rounding up 7th to 10th place was Bruno Mars at $124.5 million for "Bruno Mars at Park MGM," 2016 - present (74 shows, 384,000 tickets); Lady Gaga at $110 million for "Enigma" and "Jazz + Piano," at Park MGM which ran from 2018 to 2024 (72 shows, 376,000 tickets); Jennifer Lopez at $101.9 million, "All I Am" at Planet Hollywood, 2016 - 2018 (120 shows, 487,000 tickets), and lastly, Cher at $97.4 million for "Cher," Caesars Palace (192 shows, 698,000 tickets).

The extraordinary list not only shows the remarkable financial success of these performers but also underscores the enduring popularity - and draw - of Las Vegas as a premier entertainment destination. As residencies continue to evolve and new artists join the ranks, the financial landscape of Las Vegas shows will undoubtedly see more changes, keeping both fans and industry watchers eagerly awaiting the next big reveal.

The Mirage Volcano Erupts for the Last Time as It Paves the Way for the Hard Rock Guitar

The Mirage Volcano Erupts for the Last Time as It Paves the Way for the Hard Rock Guitar

Vegas insiders, investors, and residents alike have long been aware that the Mirage is closing its iconic doors as it paves the way for a Hard Rock renovation that is set to be the grandest on the Strip so far. But the exit of the Mirage leaves a hole in people's hearts, especially among those who have been with the Mirage from the start – namely, its architects who helped bring the ideas of Steve Wynn to life. But it's a nostalgic look back as the Mirage took time to say its last goodbyes and welcome the future with open arms.

On Wednesday, The Mirage, a landmark casino resort that revolutionized the Las Vegas Strip as we know it, closed its doors for the last time. The event, which marked the end of its 34-year legacy, was commemorated with a poignant ceremony that honored the establishment's significant impact on the city and the industry where it made its name and achieved significant fame.

Hundreds of former and current employees gathered in front of the iconic volcano on the Strip for a 90-minute ceremony. The event concluded with one final eruption of the volcano, followed by a private tour of the Mirage casino. The ceremony's closure was marked by Mirage executives and Nevada officials closing the front doors at precisely 11 am.

A heartfelt goodbye, the end of an era

During the heartfelt speeches, Jim Allen, chair of Hard Rock International, shared a moment from the previous night. He had spotted a group of the Mirage's key architects, including Brian Fink and John Wald from Kali Juba Wald Architects, drinking at one of the Mirage's bars. Surprised by their presence, Allen inquired about their gathering. They responded, "We had to be here. We had to be here the last night the legendary Mirage closes." Allen admitted to feeling a deep sadness as he walked away, as he thought about the immense responsibility and the historical significance of their decision to close The Mirage. He reflected, "God give me strength. Hopefully, we are making the right decision here, because when you start committing four or five billion and beyond, you don't want to break apart something that has so much history."

Transitioning from the Mirage to Hard Rock

The Mirage, in spite of its profitable status and lack of severe age-related issues, will undergo a complete transformation over the next three years. Hard Rock International, which acquired the property's operating assets from MGM Resorts for $1.075 billion in December of 2021, plans to remodel it into the 2nd Hard Rock Las Vegas casino resort. The redevelopment will strip The Mirage down to its concrete foundations, making way for a new era under the Hard Rock brand.

A significant part of this transformation includes the addition of a 600-room, guitar-shaped hotel, which will replace the site where the volcano erupted every night. This dramatic change means that almost no remnants of the former Mirage will remain, erasing much of the physical nostalgia for its millions of visitors.

The Mirage's unspoken history

Meanwhile, notably absent from the ceremony was Steve Wynn, the visionary behind The Mirage. Wynn, who now resides in Florida at 82, was instrumental in conceptualizing and creating The Mirage, which forever altered the Las Vegas landscape. However, his legacy, as most of you may know, is marred by controversy. Last year, Wynn paid a $10 million fine to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, concluding a protracted legal fight over sexual harassment and assault allegations against several women, which supposedly occurred at his hotels. But despite denying the allegations and never being convicted of a related crime, Wynn's association with the industry ended, and he was therefore conspicuously absent from the closing ceremony.

The ceremony offered a chance for reflection on The Mirage's historical significance and its impact on the Las Vegas Strip. As the last eruption of the volcano echoed and the doors were officially closed, a vibrant chapter of Las Vegas history came to an end, paving the way for a new beginning under the Hard Rock brand.

Casinos on a Roll: NJ Online Casino Revenue Climbs for 4th Month in a Row

New Jersey online casinos are obviously on a winning streak, as data from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement shows that the revenue from these casinos topped $186 million in the last month alone. This means that June is the 4th month where NJ continues its upward trend, which bodes well for both online casino operators and the Garden State's regulators.

True to expectations, the online casino industry in New Jersey continues to flourish, with June 2024 marking a significant milestone. According to data from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the online casinos in the Garden State produced a remarkable $186.8 million in revenue for the month of June. This achievement makes June 2024 the fourth-highest month in New Jersey's online gambling history, which began in 2013.

The upward trend: what's next for New Jersey online casinos?

As we reach the halfway point of 2024, New Jersey’s casinos online have already amassed over $1 billion in revenue, totaling a whopping $1.13 billion. This figure definitely shows a robust year-over-year growth, with June 2024 alone showing 25.2% greater growth compared to the same month in 2023. If the current trend continues, the state is on track for a 21% annual growth, surpassing the $1.9 billion it generated in 2023.

Tax revenues on the rise as well

The impressive revenue figures have also obviously translated into substantial tax contributions in NJ. In June, online casinos paid $28 million in taxes, bringing the year-to-date total to almost $170 million. For better context: the state collected $288.5 million in taxes from online casinos throughout 2023. As of now, we’re only halfway through 2024, and New Jersey has already achieved 41% of that amount.

The record-breaking trend seen in June follows the state's best month ever, which was recorded in March of 2024. Additionally, May of 2024 holds the second-highest record. In fact, over the past nine months, New Jersey's online casinos have set monthly records of revenues a total of five times, which also includes the third-highest month in April of 2024, which saw $187.9 million in revenue.

A detailed breakdown of individual casino performances in June 2024 reveals the following figures

The top-grossing casino in NJ is still DraftKings, which earned an impressive $41,033,491 last June alone. This was then followed by FanDuel, which amassed a total of $35,975,523. At third place was BetMGM, which had a June revenue of $22,314,799. The 4th spot was taken by none other than Borgata, which received a revenue of $17,853,987, and in 5th place was Caesars Palace with its overall revenue in June at $11,344,088. In 6th to 9th place, we have Hard Rock Bet with $9,593,197, Golden Nugget with $7,792,420, BetRivers with a revenue of $6,944,975, Bally at $5,839,019, and ESPN Bet with a $3,265,337 revenue.

Rounding up the list was Tropicana ($2,754,532), Ocean ($2,023,053), PlayStar ($1,920,338), Fanatics ($1,844,790), Resorts ($1,836,820), Virgin ($1,531,955), PartyPoker ($1,482,998), Jackpocket ($1,407,228), WSOP ($1,403,987), PokerStars ($1,377,285), bet365 ($1,117,169), Parx ($1,268,654), Mohegan Sun ($1,080,729), Tipico ($1,002,239), Harrah’s ($814,393), Pala/Stardust ($648,018), Wheel of Fortune ($584,550), Betway ($396,223), Jackpot City ($393,831), and 888 at $1,424.

DraftKings, along with FanDuel, continue to dominate the market, collectively accounting for over 41% of the total revenue last June 2024.

This consistent growth in online gambling revenue in NJ emphasizes the industry's resilience and potential for further expansion. As New Jersey's online casinos continue to break records and contribute significantly to the state's tax revenues, the future looks promising for the sector indeed. This ongoing success also points to a strong consumer interest and a competitive market that continues to drive innovation and enhance the overall gambling experience for players in the Garden State.

FanDuel and NYRA Resolve Horse Betting Dispute Prior to Upcoming Saratoga Season

July 18, 2024 – Just in time for the commencement of Saratoga's much awaited summer racing season, FanDuel and the New York Racing Association (NYRA) have settled a substantial contract disagreement. Horse betting on FanDuel's platforms had been suspended due to a dispute, but it was resolved on Thursday, allowing bettors all over the country to resume on New York racing events.

Initial Point of Contention

NYRA and FanDuel declared a contract impasse, which resulted in the removal of NYRA material from the FanDuel Sportsbook, FanDuel Racing app, and TVG horse betting app. The timing of this conflict was especially important, since the popular summer racing season was drawing near.

NYRA’s vice president of communications, Patrick McKenna shared “NYRA’s mission is to conduct world-class racing for the benefit of the state’s economy while growing the sport and creating opportunities for horsemen and breeders to compete for robust purses throughout the year.”

The main point of contention was the extra portion of handling that NYRA requested from wagers placed by citizens of New York State. NYRA agreements used to include host fees solely for content. FanDuel first objected to NYRA's demand for a portion of the material wagered on by New Yorkers, regardless of the game.

“NYRA agreements have traditionally been host-fee agreements for content only, but recently they also want a share of New York residents’ play from us regardless of what content those residents bet on. They’ve basically said that if we don’t pay that, then we don’t get access to NYRA content,” Fan Duel Racing’s general manager, Andrew Moore explains.

About Saratoga Race Course

Starting on Thursday and lasting through September 2, the 2024 summer meet will be held at Saratoga Race Course, one of NYRA's premier horse betting venues along with the Belmont Stakes. Twenty-seven Grade 1 flat races and two Grade 1 steeplechase races with 71 prizes totaling $20.75 million in purses will be held during the 40-day meet.
