Doran Set to Replace Zeus in T1's LOL Roster
Spending his entire career with T1 and scoring two Worlds titles, it seems that Zeus was slated to have the rest of his career with the team. But then he shocked the rest of the League of Legends community by deciding to leave T1, and now the team has opted to have Doran take over his spot in the roster moving forward.
In case you didn’t know, T1 is the most decorated esports team in the competitive scene of League of Legends. They have been prominent for as long as one can remember, but with Zeus moving on from the team, it does seem that the odds are going to be quite on a shift this time around after having one of their best players move on.
If you are not really shocked – the news just came after T1 managed to score its fifth Worlds title, beating Bilibili Gaming in five games just two weeks ago. Now that is a complete shock considering how successful they have been so far, and this just means a lot to the overall hype that T1 will have in the next set of games moving forward.
End of an Era
The legendary ZOFGK roster finally comes to an end after Zeus himself breaks away from the group. This squad has been a prominent lineup in the game and has been seen as one of the staple standards in the game over the years. That lineup consisted of Choi “Zeus” Woo-je, Mun "Oner" Hyeon-jun, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, Lee “Gumayusi” Minhyeong, and Ryu "Keria" Min-seok.
This squad spent four years together and won two LOL World Championship titles together, and it cannot be denied that the expectations were for them to sit together and come up with more wins in the coming seasons. Instead the group has broken up with Zeus out of the picture.
Zeus is one of the highly-praised players in LOL. He is seen as the best top laner in the world and was even seen as a trendsetter in the game with the way he plays with finesse and smart tactics. This marks the first time that Zeus will now explore various options in his team aside from T1. It can be remembered that the star has already received options from China’s LOL Pro League back in 2023, but no reports has been made yet regarding his future in the game.
The New Top Laner on the Rise
With Zeus out of the picture, T1 has opted to bring in Choi "Doran" Hyeon-joon to replace the former top laner, who previously played for Hanwha Life Esports (HLE). Doran was one of the key figures for HLE in the 2024 LCK Summer Championship victory and helped them finish third in Spring 2024.
Prior to his campaign with HLE, Doran has also played for Gen.G, where he led them to win three regional titles. Joining T1 marks the star’s eighth team overall after nearly moving from one team after another almost yearly. His valuable experience in playing for top-tier teams such as DRX, KT Rolster, and Griffin will come in handy to help T1 continue putting up a lot of winning runs in the future.
At the age of 24, Doran is still yet to actually reach the peak of his game, and one can say that he is going to have the best chance to prove his worth on the big stage in the coming months.
