Las Vegas is one of the world’s great destinations for tourists, especially adults looking for a good time. The desert playground features amazing resorts and hotels, many with casinos, in a setting that can be liberating, intimidating, or a bit of both. The city has hosted a Formula 1 race and the NBA In-Season Tournament Final Four, with the Super Bowl coming in February.
While there are lots of reasons to visit Vegas, there are some places to maybe avoid when planning a stay. That’s where we can help.
Those looking to skimp on lodging to maximize budgets for dining, gaming, and other pursuits may look at chain hotels or options off the Strip. While they can look inviting, some aren’t quite worth the bargain. Here are some of the worst hotels in Las Vegas, based on Yelp Reviews and consumer input.
Super 8 Las Vegas
Folks who stay at the Super 8 Las Vegas near Fremont Street do not seem satisfied. The Yelp Review is overall 2.5 stars but 49 of the 106 reviews are just one-star. Complaints range from dirty rooms, rude staff, and a dangerous neighborhood to unscrupulous practices over deposits or copies of government IDs.
Recent reviews have included pictures of black mold in rooms. Staying in that space, especially for anyone with breathing problems, is very dangerous. Might be worth avoiding.

Desert Hills Motel
Anyone who frequents big tourist destinations knows there are some fancy, expensive hotels, and then there are areas with lower-priced, lesser quality places to stay. Desert Hills Motel seems to fall into the latter category. On Yelp, they have just a 1.1 stars average review, with 17 one-star submissions.
Customers complained about the area, dealing with unhoused persons harassing guests for money, and filthy conditions. Guests claimed there were rats, cockroaches, bed bugs, and other creatures “sharing” the rooms without chipping in for rent.

OYO Hotels
There are a few OYO locations in the city. The “Gateway” location listed on S. Las Vegas Blvd has 15 one-star reviews and nothing else. They read like horror stories of filthy rooms, poor service, and failed expectations. Rooms don’t appear to be cleaned or updated frequently.
There is apparently a better OYO location that is on the site of the old Hooters so make sure to get the address before paying for a stay.

Hotel Galaxy
This hotel has a Yelp score of 1.4 stars with 131 of their 164 reviews being one-star. People are not happy after their stays, complaining about rude front desk staff, disgusting rooms, and even charging $40 to park. Now that’s common at many resorts but seems to be taking advantage of customers who choose this hotel right off Interstate 15.
A few reviewers complained of smells emanating from rooms that could not be contained or accommodated. Seems like a destination to avoid.

Sunrise Inn
Many of the worst hotels in Vegas are stand-alone facilities, separate from the big resorts. While there are some positive reviews, the Sunrise Inn has a 1.4 total rating and 33 of the 40 reviews are one-star. Former guests complained the place is in need of repairs, unresponsive staff, and generally poor conditions. Some also found the low price online wasnt what they paid, with fees added. Given all that money, things should be in better shape.

City Center Motel
The name is accurate, as the hotel is right on East Fremont St, just blocks from Las Vegas Blvd. Everything else, well, not great. The City Center Motel has a 1.6 overall rating, with 27 of the 35 ratings being just one-star. Like many of these hotels, reviewers expressed a desire to leave zero or less stars.
The page claims no wi-fi in the rooms. Ok, that’s weird. Guests accused the motel of dirty rooms, faulty electricity, and uncomfortable beds. Location doesn’t trump everything unfortunately.

Extended Stay America - Las Vegas Midtown
It’s really odd to see national chain places with poor reviews. This hotel only earned 1.7 stars, with 48 of 70 reviews grading it one-star. Guests expressed displeasure with the neighborhood (which isn’t near much entertainment), staffers refusing to follow corporate policy, and poor room conditions.

Travelodge by Wyndham Las Vegas
Travelodge is one of the lower-tier motel chains available in most cities and populated areas. To see 1.8 stars in Las Vegas isn’t as surprising. 61 of the 91 reviews only gave one star. Reasons included uncleaned rooms, rundown facilities, and just poor management of the location. It’s right on Las Vegas Blvd but that didn’t overcome the myriad issues many guests faced.

Seigel Select Convention Center
Another hotel with a good location and not much else going for it apparently. This seems to be a hotel targeting longer stays, with weekly and monthly rates mentioned. However, the 1.7 rating suggests these weren’t satisfied customers, with 25 of the 38 reviews at just one star.
Some guests complained about attempts to charge and not return deposits, while others decried the poor cleaning of rooms, which included bed bugs and filthy features. Many claimed the staffers weren’t responsive and at times deceptive.

Town and Country Manor III
Well we know what they say about the sequel never living up to the original. With a 1.4 overall score, only two of the 17 total reviews were over one-star. Some of the complaints focused on issues with management, while others thought the rooms were in need of massive makeovers. Loud noises outside the room while guests tried to sleep didn’t help much.

And as a bonus - the infamous Shalimar Hotel Las Vegas
In a league of its own, and warranting a special mention outside this infamous top 10, is the Shalimar Hotel Las Vegas. A friend from Philadelphia visited in October 2016 and the experience was so dismal, he now uses "shalimar" as a general term for any subpar hotel. The rooms felt unsafe, especially being on the first floor, causing a constant sense of unease.
The only saving grace was that the intensity of their Vegas partying meant spending minimal time in the hotel. It was a comedic paradox: the worse the hotel got, the more legendary their nights became. They practically turned into nocturnal party animals, all thanks to the dubious charm of the Shalimar. Despite their best efforts to dodge the Shalimar experience, it has, ironically, etched a permanent place in their memories. A classic example of when a place becomes memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Summary: some fancy hotels in Las Vegas are expensive. However, spending extra money usually means avoiding the worst places to stay. Maybe wait and save up for a trip to afford something better than a Super 8 or lower-tier accommodations.
