Yankees Seek to Bounce Back from 0-2 Deficit in World Series vs Dodgers
While all the hype has come to put up an impressive notch on how historic this matchup is expected to be, it has been all Dodgers for most of the game so far, with Los Angeles now taking a 2-0 lead in the World Series as the action now shifts to New York. But will the Yankees be able to come up with a promising performance to lead the way for a championship miracle? Sure, the first two games have been both intense, but it cannot be denied that Yankees fans and even the whole east coast is already in panic right now. New York would’ve been elated to get a chance to come back from the deficit with the game now shifting in their home ground, but it seems that the odds do not really favor them heading into Game 3, where there are high expectations for Los Angeles to grab a commanding 3-0 lead. So far, the Yankees hope to make the most of their chances of winning in Game 3. After all, they will have the backing of their home crowd, and it cannot be denied that they will have to see more of their elite stars if they are going to pull off a chance at cutting the lead, tying it to two games apiece, and even winning the World Series. Aspirations of a 28th Championship Forget all of the defensive miscues in Games 1 and 2, including the missed opportunities that have passed them by to win Game 2. In a best-of-seven series, fans can expect to see more from the desperate Yankees squad to come up with a much-needed win at the Bronx. At this point, all of New York’s hopes of coming up with their 28th championship in the MLB may be in jeopardy at this point in time. It is worth noting that all of the teams who have gone up 2-0 in the World Series have gone on to win the tournament 84% of the time – with 77 teams winning it out of 92 times for the whole postseason. In the most recent news, the Arizona Diamondbacks managed to claw their way back from an 0-2 deficit to beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2023 NLCS in seven games. Speaking of the World Series, there are a total of 10 teams who have managed to overcome an 0-2 deficit. Surprisingly, the New York Yankees hold the most in that regard, pulling off comebacks in 1956, 1958, 1978, and 1996 editions of the World Series. If history is on the side of the Dodgers, one can say that the Yankees also have a piece of their own historic feat to back their chances. Can Aaron Judge Step Up? Aaron Judge was a lackluster performer in the World Series so far, and it cannot be denied that the Yankees now need more of his elite performances if the club is going to pull off this comeback. The Yankees cannot afford to go down 0-3 considering how well history doesn’t really much favor teams who go down that path. Judge was a sky-high performer in the regular season, finishing with 58 home runs, 223 OPS, and a WAR of 10.8 and is expected to be a runaway winner for the AL MVP honors this year. However, 2024 World Series Judge has been slashing at .150/.280/.325 in 50 plate appearances this postseason – which is a disappointing note so far. Fans will have to wait and see if Judge can pull off a comeback to lead the way for the Yankees and hopefully make the most of their chances.
