July 12th Mega Millions Results: Winning Numbers Announced, Jackpot at $203 Million

July 15, 2024 – Friday night’s winning numbers were 15, 35, 48, 53, and 68, Mega Ball 8 with a Multiplier at 3x. Drawn after 11 pm ET, the estimated total jackpot is now $203 million. The lottery states that a winning player may get a lump sum payment after taxes that is estimated to be worth $96 million cash out.

If anyone actually won the lottery, the estimated jackpot would be $203 million which would have been theirs for the taking. The Mega Millions jackpot has been won by two players so far this year: one from New Jersey won an incredible $1.13 billion earlier in March, while another from Illinois won $ million earlier in the same month.

Buying a lottery ticket for Mega Millions is simple and can be purchased at any grocery, convenience store, or gas station. Keep in mind though, in certain places, tickets are also offered online.

Adam Rude Experiences Health Scare, Returns for WSOP Main Event Day 5

July 12, 2024– After finishing Day 4 of the 2024 WSOP Main Event, Adam Rude suffered a heart attack that sent him to the hospital. Remarkably, he returned hours later to compete for the $10 million prize on Day 5. However, some fellow players criticized his choice to play instead of resting.

"I am getting a little negative feedback at the table," Rude reported on the first Day 5 break. "One guy is a little outspoken that I shouldn't be here. The reason I'm here — the only reason I'm here is because I have two boys, and I want to give them $10 million," the poker player adds.

A Cause for Concern

Rude clarified that Thursday morning, while taking a shower, his defibrillator—a gadget that shocks the heart to restart a regular rhythm—went off. "So, I went to the hospital and it was registering as a heart attack," Rude said. "So, I mean, they didn't see any damage, they did what they could do. They got my vitals, everything, looking good. And they gave me some strong medicines to get me through today."

Rude doesn't think the physicians' diagnosis that he had a heart attack was accurate. Despite admitting to being "feeling tired" during the interview, he expressed confidence in his ability to navigate the day without incident.

Adam Rude, who has a defibrillator due to past heart issues, arrived on Day 5 of the WSOP Main Event with under 20 big blinds but quickly doubled up with pocket aces. Rude, who finished 117th in 2018, was guaranteed a minimum payout of $40,000, aiming to earn more for his two sons. Among the remaining 360 players were big names like Phil Ivey, Adrian Mateos, and Tony Dunst. PokerNews provided live coverage.

The Downtown Grand, a prominent casino and hotel located just a block north of the iconic Fremont Street Experience, has officially been put up for sale. Known for its extensive 24,000 square feet casino along with its more than 1,100 hotel guest rooms, the property is attracting considerable interest from potential buyers.

Originally known as the Lady Luck, the Downtown Grand includes a casino and three hotel towers. According to the Vital Vegas blog on Casino.org, the current owner, CIM Group, has set the asking price at $180 million. Despite this high valuation, four serious offers have been made, each just under $100 million.

Fifth Street Gaming, which operates the Downtown Grand, also manages several other properties in the Las Vegas area, including the Siegel Slots & Suites, the Gold Spike, the Silver Nugget, the Lucky Club, as well as Ojos Locos Sports Cantina and Casino in North Las Vegas.

While a thorough search of commercial property sites in Las Vegas did not yield specific listings for the Downtown Grand by address, multiple sources, which includes the Las Vegas Review-Journal, have confirmed the sale details reported by Vital Vegas. The news of the sale first emerged on March 28 via a tweet from Vital Vegas.

A Las Vegas property with a crucial role in the town's history

The Downtown Grand first opened its doors in October of 2013, occupying the site of the previous Lady Luck casino on 206 N. 3rd Street. This address has a storied history, beginning with a barber shop called Honest John's and a newsstand, which both opened in 1961 within the Ogden Square Shopping Center. By 1964, the barber shop had transformed into a casino under the management of Andy Tompkins. Incidentally, it was Tompkins who rebranded it in 1968 as the Lady Luck.

The site's evolution continued with the expansion of the casino in 1979 and the addition of two hotel towers, the first one in 1986 and the second in 1989. In 2000, Isle of Capri Casinos acquired the Lady Luck for approximately $258 million.

However, the property faced challenges in the mid-2000s. On February 11, 2006, in particular, the hotel and casino closed for remodeling, with the expectation that the process would take anywhere from 9 to 12 months. Unfortunately, financing issues led to a prolonged closure. On the 12th of June, 2007, CIM Group acquired the property for a little more than $100 million. They subsequently invested another $200 million in renovations, including the construction of a third tower, which was completed in 2020.

The sale of the Downtown Grand marks a significant moment in the history of Las Vegas real estate. As one of the city's notable casino resorts, its change in ownership could bring new developments and opportunities to the area. The interest from potential buyers enhances the value and appeal of this historic Las Vegas property, and we are eager to see who would invest in this premier and notable property - and perhaps turn it into something entirely new - in the coming months.

Aidan Hutchinson Acknowledges the Hype Surrounding the Lions

With all the big hype surrounding the Detroit Lions in the offseason, it does seem that Aidan Hutchinson is not new to the big expectations that is building around the team’s chances as they now put their focus to winning big in the next campaign. This is an unfamiliar territory for the Lions, who have not seen massive strides in the game, but now they have to get used to it.

The franchise has spent most of its years as a team that is typically kept in the closet of the NFC North with zero expectations of having a shot at the top of the league. They were even named the black eye of the league amongst other losing teams. Now that they have become a different team in the game, it does seem that the Lions are now looking towards the horizon at this point.

With all the hype that’s surrounding the Lions, it does seem fair enough to say that Hutchinson is acknowledging the hype as something that can inspire the squad to perform at a high level, and when it is all said and done, hopefully end up with a championship at the end of the day.

A Year of Success

The past few years have been a laugh for many critics in the game – until the Lions went on to secure a wild card spot by defeating the Los Angeles Rams and then beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Playoffs. Dan Campbell’s boys fell short of putting up a massive campaign when they fell to the San Francisco 49ers in a 34-31 loss. Still, the 2023 run showed the massive potential that the Lions can deliver on the big stage when given a chance.

The Lions ended their 30-year drought after claiming its first division title since 1993, which marked the ninth time in the history of the franchise that Detroit actually won a division title. They did actually won back-to-back division titles, which dates all the way back to the 1953-54 seasons. It was unlikely that the team was expected to make waves on the big stage, and while there were glimmers of hope in the past few years where they managed to come up with big strides, only to come up short.

The previous season was proof that the Lions are now capable of contending at the highest level. Dan Campbell and Detroit GM Brad Holmes has certainly built a promising roster that can last and contend for the years to come.

Hutchinson’s Confidence

Hutchinson believes that Detroit competing for its first-ever Super Bowl appearance is inspiring all the hype that the team is seeing at this point. Back then, the expectation was just to qualify for a wild card spot, then became a division title, and now a conference title en route to the big stage.

"It's unreal. There's a lot of hype coming into this year, but I think it's well-deserved hype," said Hutchinson. "I think a lot more guys on our team understand what this year is, and we understand what we got and we're all ready. I think everyone has put everything into this upcoming year, and I feel like for the years to come as well, because it's not our last year we're all playing. There's a lot of great players on this team, and I think we could just have repeated success over the next few years."

However, the Lions will have to brave the odds and try their best in putting up impressive performances. After all, one can take note of the fact that the Lions have never appeared in the playoffs in back-to-back years since the Wayne Fontes heyday of 1994-95. Those are the odds that Hutchinson and the rest of the squad has to beat at this point.

LeBron James Confident About His Title Chances Ahead of the 2024-25 Season

Ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season and Team USA’s redemption campaign in the 2024 Paris Olympics, LeBron James addressed the talks as to how the Lakers can actually make a push towards a title with him already inching closer to a possible retirement from the NBA in the years to come. James did not hold back in his confident answer, saying that he can definitely win a title before he moves on from the game.

So far, this has been a quiet offseason for the Lakers. They have drafted Dalton Knecht and Bronny James, then later signed LeBron to a max contract that has player options one year after another. No upgrades or massive roster changes were made, and a lot of familiar faces are also returning to the team heading into the next campaign.

And yet, LeBron has full confidence that he can come up with a massive title in the next few years or so. That says a lot about how the Lakers can actually hope to see a title run as well, and it cannot be denied that James is definitely yearning to snag one more title before he moves on from the NBA.

James’ Unwavering Confidence

The Lakers went on to win big in the 2020 NBA Bubble when James and Anthony Davis led the way to win their first championship in a decade. However, that success could not be sustained well as the Lakers would go on to come up with short playoff runs, with the best one being in the 2023 Playoffs where they reached the Western Conference Finals – only to get swept by the Denver Nuggets. The 2024 NBA Playoffs sort of had the same ending, with the Nuggets ousting them in the first round in five games.

"We still have two guys who commit every single day, myself and AD. We commit to excellence," James said. "We're not that far off. We were one year removed from the Western Conference Finals. This past year didn't go as well as we would like, but we're not that far off.”

The Lakers have made significant changes to its coaching staff though. JJ Redick was hired as the head coach, while the team has added massive winners in Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks to serve as assistant coaches for Redick’s staff. One can say that the Lakers are definitely gearing up for a massive war in the Western Conference that has just got stacked at this point.

James Not Slowing Down

James has turned down his $51.4 million player option and rejoined the Lakers at a pay cut to help the team come up with a good addition to the squad and improve their chances. However, it is worth noting that James alone remains at the top of his game even at the age of 39, which says a lot about the performances that he can offer in the coming seasons until he retires.

For context, James averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds in 71 games for the 2023-24 season. He even shot 54% from the field, including 41% from three. These numbers eerily mirror the same stats that he had in the 2015-16 season, the same campaign where he led Cleveland to its first championship.

James is not backing down in the game, and he is certainly playing at a high level, this says a lot about how he can take his game to the next level and possibly guide the Lakers to one last championship before he retires.

Texas Lottery Called Out for Loophole Allowing Syndicate to Win $95M

July 11, 2024 – A legislative commission in Texas holds the state lottery accountable for its failure to close a loophole that lets a syndicate based in New Jersey win a $95 million jackpot.

The Texas Lottery Commission (TLC) came under fire from the Sunset Advisory Committee (SAC) for permitting "courier companies" to purchase 25.8 million tickets, which ensured the winning of the jackpot and the majority of other prizes, for a syndicate based in New Jersey called Rook TX. The SAC branded the TLC as "stagnant" and "passive" for failing to close this loophole, which made it less likely for regular Texans to win the entire jackpot in that draw.

Prone to Exploitation

With 25.8 million possible combinations, the Texas Lottery draw became theoretically exploitable on April 22, 2023. The prize pool reached $95 million following 93 rollovers. After taxes, a syndicate that invested $25.8 million in tickets would make $57.8 million.

They took home an additional $2.5 million in rewards, including 289 second prizes and smaller payouts. Despite the Lottery's typical sale of only 2 million tickets, lottery couriers enabled the syndicate to purchase all combinations.

Lottery courier services provide wins to clients and sell tickets online. Following the drawing, the winning ticket was identified and tracked down to Lottery Now in Colleyville. It was discovered that this was "Hooked on Montana," a fishing excursion company with a lottery sales license.

While only New York and New Jersey have legalized and licensed courier businesses, several other jurisdictions accept them, including Texas, which the SAC opposes. Owner Richard Wheeler sold over 11 million tickets to Rook TX.

A Brief History of The World Series of Poker

Key executive Jack Binion of the Horseshoe, together with his father Benny Binion, helped launch the World Series of Poker in 1970. At the age of 26, Jack was elected president of the Horseshoe, and under his direction, it became one of the most prosperous casinos in Nevada.

Las Vegas Visitors Can Now Book Balcony Rooms at Caesars Entertainment’s Versailles Tower Beginning July 22

Those who are planning to visit Las Vegas starting July 22 onwards can now book a stay at the balcony rooms facing the Strip – including the famous Bellagio fountains - at the luxurious Caesars Entertainment Versailles Tower. But all 38 rooms come with a hefty price tag - so be prepared to pay for the opulence!

Las Vegas has ushered in a new era of luxury accommodations with the introduction of balcony rooms at Paris Las Vegas, marking the first of such offerings since the Cosmopolitan's debut in 2010. These eagerly anticipated rooms inside the newly revamped and remodeled Versailles Tower are now available for booking on the Paris Las Vegas website, with stays starting from Monday, the 22nd of July.

Each of the new 38 balcony rooms spans 445 sq. feet, offering guests a private 55 sq.-foot terrace that presents stunning views of the iconic Las Vegas Strip from the west. In particular, guests can enjoy picturesque scenes of the Bellagio fountains, situated directly across the street. The cost for one night is $246, which includes a $50 daily resort fee but excludes taxes. However, it's important to note that the Versailles Tower hosts a total of 718 rooms and suites, with the majority lacking balcony access - so make sure to ask for the rooms with balconies.

The introduction of balcony rooms is part of a comprehensive renovation of the Versailles Tower, its first major upgrade since 2014. Caesars Entertainment, the operator of both Paris Las Vegas and the adjacent Horseshoe property, invested approximately $100 million in the renovations.

Historical significance and timely renovation

The Versailles Tower holds a unique place in Las Vegas history as the only resort tower to have transferred ownership between two operational properties. Last year, Paris Las Vegas annexed the tower from the neighboring Horseshoe. This 26-story tower has undergone multiple rebrandings since its inception in 1982, initially opening as the south tower of the MGM Grand. In 1986, it became a portion of Bally’s, and in 2013, it was renamed the Jubilee Tower. Later, it was integrated into Horseshoe Las Vegas in 2022.

A significant enhancement accompanying the renovation is the construction of a second-floor pedestrian bridge. This bridge will connect the Versailles Tower to the main Paris Las Vegas complex, abolishing the current requirement for guests to enter the tower via a walkway through the Horseshoe. The bridge is slated to open just in time for the second F1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas, scheduled for November 21 to 23.
