The 2023 run was a storied finish for the Kansas City Chiefs, but 2024? Not really much as they ended up losing the previous Super Bowl. Most of the time, disappointing losses would lead players to be frustrated and desire to complete some unfinished business or avenge their loss. Patrick Mahomes isn’t having any of those dramas up and running, and he is ready to take on the challenge on the big stage.
For the most successful quarterback of the decade so far, it is all about playing the game once more and making the most of their chances. That’s what we’ve seen from the many players in the game who ended up as successful players now more than ever. Sure, fatigue may be starting to be a factor, but as a winning team of three Super Bowls, it is safe to say that the Chiefs' playcaller still aspires to win a lot.
After all, he is still way ahead of his game. He is just in his prime, and Mahomes definitely has a lot to offer in order to help the Chiefs win now more than ever. At this point, there’s a lot of expectation for the Chiefs to make a glorious run once more, and it cannot be denied that it is really quite a pressure on Mahomes’ leadership moving forward.
Just Play Football
Mahomes has one goal in mind – to play the game. The Chiefs were in a big challenging spot last season. Sure, they won 15 games, but they remained in constant fire from critics as their level of play waned over time. There were positive results that proved to be of high praise, but fatigue kept showing up as well, and it bit them in the end when they played against an energized Eagles squad.
"Whenever you lose, you kind of have this taste in your mouth that you want to go out there and revenge that or whatever you want to say,” Mahomes said. “At the same time, I feel like I've had to sit back and just listen to people talk and talk and I'm like, 'let's just play football and just handle it all out there.' I don't really want to talk about it. I just want to go out and show who we are as the Kansas City Chiefs."
The Chiefs are a team to look out for, no matter what the previous season may have to say about that. However, there are a lot of expectations with the way Mahomes is going to lead this squad to bigger heights once more.
Revamping the Identity
One of the points that Mahomes wanted to point out was the fact that they need to enjoy playing the game. They do have the talent, the coaches, and the experience of winning it all. So this is a matter of minor adjustments that the team has to make if they want to leave a stronger mark in the coming season.
"I think it's gonna come from everywhere," Mahomes said. "Obviously, you've got Rashee being back - he looks great. You have Xavier Worthy, who came on so strong at the end of last year. You have Hollywood Brown healthy again. Guys everywhere. You add in Travis Kelce, a Hall of Famer, Noah Gray, a great tight end, and everybody that we've added to all those different rooms.”
At this point, it is safe to say that the Chiefs are still a team to look out for in the coming season, and fans should watch out for Kansas City squad that is going to play better than ever.
