Atlantic City is coming up with a brand-new marvel, as if the City didn't have enough of them - it was just announced that a new boutique hotel in Atlantic City is in the works, but it's different from other boutique hotels in that it will have a Monopoly theme. The hotel will feature the iconic figures from the famous board game, including a top hat, a race car, and more.
A new hotel that draws inspiration from Monopoly, the classic board game everyone knows, is in the works for Atlantic City: the very place where the original game's street names are located.
RMS Capital, a real estate developer based in New Jersey, revealed last Tuesday that the organization will soon break ground on "The Top Hat at The Orange Loop" - a Monopoly-themed boutique hotel and short-term rental property.
Just minutes from the famous Boardwalk
The hotel will be built along Tennessee Avenue, near the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk, within the city's revitalized "Orange Loop" district. The design of the three-story building will feature distinct Monopoly-inspired elements, including a large top hat structure atop the building along with a racecar protruding from the facade - nods to two of the game's classic playing pieces.
"The Top Hat at The Orange Loop is a game changer for Atlantic City," said Mark Callazzo, managing partner of RMS Capital. "We're not just building a structure - we're creating a space that will serve as a landmark for residents and visitors alike."
Significant transformations in Atlantic City
The Orange Loop, which spans three beach blocks from Tennessee Avenue to St. James Place and New York Avenue, has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, transitioning from what was once known as the "Dead Zone" to a vibrant district home to various restaurants, shops, entertainment venues, and other businesses.
"The Orange Loop has come a long way from its 'Dead Zone' days, and this project represents the next step in its evolution," added Callazzo. "It's about revitalizing the area, supporting local businesses, and offering unique experiences that drive tourism and economic growth."
More features and attractions
While the boutique hotel will not include a casino or any kind of gambling, each of its six guest rooms will come equipped with a classic game of Monopoly, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the iconic board game experience. The ground floor of the building will also feature 1,400 square feet of retail space.
The decision to base the hotel's design and theme on Monopoly is a nod to the game's deep-rooted connection with Atlantic City. The original board, which remains in production almost nine decades after its initial release, uses the names of 21 out of 22 available streets from the city. The lone exception is Marvin Gardens, which is located in the nearby town of Ventnor City.
The interesting origins of the iconic board game
The Monopoly game's origins can be traced back to Atlantic City as well. The predecessor to the popular board game, known as "The Landlord's Game," gained popularity among a group of Quakers in the seaside town before Charles Darrow, one of the Quakers, designed his own version using the local street names.
"The Top Hat is more than a building," stated Callazzo. "It's a symbol of Atlantic City's resilience and innovation." He added that we are taking a beloved game that's inextricably linked to this city and turning it into a unique hospitality experience that will attract new visitors and drive economic growth.
Monopoly and Atlantic City go way back
The boutique hotel will be situated in close proximity to two of Atlantic City's major casinos, Bally's and Resorts, positioning it as a complementary attraction within the city's diverse tourism landscape.
With Monopoly-themed slot machines already among the most popular games inside casinos across the country and the brand's use in interactive online lottery games and scratchers, the development of The Top Hat at The Orange Loop represents a natural evolution of the game's enduring legacy and its deep connection to Atlantic City.
As construction on the boutique hotel is set to begin next year, the project is set to become a new landmark for both residents and visitors, offering a one-of-a-kind Monopoly-inspired experience in the very place where the game's iconic street names were born.
