Record Visitor Arrivals in 2025
Macau has set a record for annual visitor arrivals, recording about 40.06-million tourist entries in 2025, according to preliminary figures from the city’s Public Security Police.
Last year’s tally surpassed the nearly 39.41-million visitor arrivals recorded in full-year 2019, the reporting period immediately preceding the Covid-19 pandemic and the previous record.
The figure was up 14.7 percent from the approximately 34.93-million entries recorded in 2024, showed the official data.
The police did not provide a breakdown of visitors by place of origin.
Macau International Airport Traffic
Macau International Airport handled “over 7.52 million passengers” in 2025, down 1.6 percent year-on-year, according to a written announcement by its operator.
Macau International Airport Co Ltd (CAM) said passenger traffic “fell short of expectations during the first half of the year and the summer holiday period” due to “surrounding economic environment and some uncertain factors”, resulting in an “overall decrease” for full-year 2025.
The operator said it was collaborating with various stakeholders to attract new carriers to Macau’s air-transport hub. This effort had already “led to the launch of multiple new destinations and an increase in flight frequencies, with passenger traffic showing a steady increase in fourth quarter” of 2025.
“There has been a 26-percent growth in the number of international routes and a 7-percent increase in international passenger traffic compared to last year,” added the airport operator.
New Year Holiday Visitor Surge
In a separate release, the police said that Macau welcomed 766,240 visitors during a five-day period encompassing the New Year season, from December 31 to January 4 inclusive.
The data indicate that the average daily number of visitor arrivals during the period was above 153,200.
The police did not provide a breakdown of visitors by place of origin during the nine-day period. However, the majority of tourists for the aggregate of the first five days entered Macau via the Border Gate checkpoint (353,788 arrivals), the Hengqin checkpoint (139,285 arrivals), or the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (126,236 arrivals).
