Jeremy Swayman is one of the best stars who are considered to be a prestigious pickup for many teams should he fail to complete his contract re-negotiation with the Boston Bruins. It is worth noting that the NHL offseason is still not over, and there are more teams to expect in the coming weeks considering that there may be a plot-twist signing in the making, which includes Swayman’s contract re-work with his team.

Coming off a promising season despite the Bruins falling short in the playoffs, it cannot be denied that Swayman does deserve some generous reward for his impressive performances, which has definitely made him quite the reliable star in the game. However, it does seem that the goalie is worried about his future in the game depending on the outcome of the contract talks.

At the age of 25, Swayman has enjoyed some promising runs with the Bruins in his four seasons with the team. Selected 111th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft, the goalie was considered to be one of the biggest steals in the draft class, especially with the way he rose to stardom at this point in the game.

Understanding the Business Side

As one of the lead goalies in the game, it does seem that Swayman’s hopes of a bigger contract is definitely quite a reach for many experts. However, the Bruins star does understand the fact that there is more to consider in offering a contract for a player, such as cap space and many other specifics.

"I understand the cap is going up and where it will be in years. I understand my comparables and how I can’t ruin the goalie market for guys that are gonna be in my shoes down the line,” said Swayman, who is known to have a degree in business from the University of Maine. “The answer I’m gonna give you this year, is that I’ve educated myself, and I understand the business side of it all. It’s given me a complete new mindset of understanding the business and how to react to it."

Of course, locking up their star goalie is definitely a huge priority for the Bruins. After all, it is easy to say that Swayman is just entering his prime, and he is yet to show the best of his game just yet considering that he is still at the age of 25.

Does Swayman Deserve a Bigger Contract?

Many fans claim that Swayman’s request for a rework in his contract stems from multiple fronts, such as wanting a high-paying contract, pushing the goalie market, and even just the simple request of valuing the worth he brings to the team night in and night out. However, Swayman said that he is indeed worried about how this process has impacted his mindset so far.

“If you were to ask me that question a year ago, I would answer truthfully and say it’s scary, it’s a lot of resentment towards people that want you to succeed ... it’s a nerve-racking feeling, because it’s your family you’re fighting for,” Swayman said.

Remaining unsigned means that Swayman could even entertain offers from other teams. Coming off a season where he posted 2.34 goals against average and a promising .919 save percentage, it does seem easy to say that Swayman deserves to get some more bucks to his contract with the Bruins this season.
