Riqui Puig Pleased with LA Galaxy's Return to Dominance
With eight games left in the regular season, Riqui Puig is definitely glad to see that LA Galaxy is still sitting at the top of the Western Conference after a turbulent start in the campaign. It seems that the Galaxy has regained composure at the right time, and Puig is already seeing a bigger stride from the club as they aim to finish strong.
At this point, the challenge is not over for the Galaxy. The team stands at 49 points with the 1st seed in the West, just two points ahead of their inter-state rivals, LAFC. It seems that fans will be in for a treat in the West as the top four come close between one another, which could definitely have catastrophic implications in the final seeding of the campaign.
Puig is clearly ready to take on the challenge with a lot of confidence at this point. He is delivering one of the most impressive performances we’ve seen in years, and it cannot be denied that this is the chance for LA to actually make the most of its wins and deliver a title by the end of the season.
Not a Victory Lap Yet
It is too soon for LA Galaxy to celebrate, and with eight games to go, Puig likes their chances well as they continue to defy the odds stacked against them. Galaxy wasn’t really even in the betting odds to break into the top of the West, let alone the top four. And yet here they are, bringing everything they’ve got to the first seed.
Many experts claimed that Galaxy would not be on the top spot for the race at the 2024 season. Galaxy has endured a lot of criticism in the game for the past few months, and while the experts continue to talk their talk on how their pace has changed, it does seem that LA has definitely changed their odds so far, and it cannot be denied that their hopes have taken a leap at this point.
We all know that the final eight games of the season will play a huge role on how the season will end between the Western Conference. It is also worth noting that there are even more battles to come in the playoffs, with Miami FC emerging as a lead contender to look out for, which is going to be a challenge for the team if they are going to finish at the top once more.
Puig’s Massive Season
Riqui Puig has had an impressive season with the LA Galaxy so far, leading the league in progressive passes by more than 100 and is tops in touches, fouls earned, progressive carrying distance, and passes into the final third. He has even made 255 entries in the season to go along with eight goals and 11 assists, making him a valuable player for the Galaxy’s bid for the top spot in the West.
"I think it’s a year in which I’m scoring a lot of goals, have a lot of assists," he said. "I think I’m really involved in the team and honestly I’m really happy. It’s one of the best years I’ve had since I started my career."
If you are not convinced, Puig’s jersey is already the fifth-best-selling in the league. Being an all-star this season is such a huge feat, and it cannot be denied that it is one of the huge reasons why his confidence has taken a leap at this point in time.
