Red Sox Rumored to be Next Destination for Nolan Arenado
There have been many rumors circulating about Nolan Arenado – the fact that he may well be headed for the New York Yankees with Paul Goldschmidt or even the reigning champions Los Angeles Dodgers. However, it seems that the Cardinals star may well be set for a run to join the Red Sox instead according to some sources.
The St. Louis Cardinals have been trying to inquire about a lot of trade options regarding Arenado. While the recent talks have been quiet, especially after he used his no-trade clause to take down a possible deal with the Houston Astros, massive rumors of a move with the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, and Los Angeles Dodgers have started to revolve.
While there’s no actual news, insiders reported that the eight-time All-Star may well be willing to waive his no-trade clause now more than ever in hopes of bringing his game to the next level. While those are still rumors, it does seem that Arenado is quite determined to bring his game to Fenway Park for the next season.
A New Chapter for Arenado?
At the age of 33, Nolan Arenado is definitely keen to make the most of his chances and win the World Series now more than ever. An eight-time all-star, a 10-time winner of the Gold Glove Award, and a five-time Silver Slugger winner, it does seem that the former Colorado Rockies star does deserve a chance to win it all in his games and cap off a promising career.
As one of the best defensive third basemen of all-time, it does seem that Arenado now offers a massive boost for the Red Sox should he move to the team at this point. It can be remembered that Boston finished with an 81-81 record last season and finished 9th overall in the American League, which was a far-fetched ending than what the fans were expecting.
With Arenado, the Red Sox will likely be bringing a promising puncher who could swing the bat at a high level while also provide the needed defense for their games. He has already informed the Cardinals that he would be willing to waive the no-trade clause, but there are still no official reports as to the progress of the potential deal at play.
Can Red Sox Lock Up the Deal?
The Red Sox have already been said to be the biggest candidate to land Arenado at this point in time. There does seem to be a lot of smoke about a possible deal, and considering that Boston and St. Louis already has a history of transactions, it might not be impossible that these two clubs could pull it off, especially after last year’s deal involved Tyler O’Neill, and another one should easily be on the way.
Arenado is reportedly owed $74 million over the next three years. Fenway Park has been a paradise for many right-handed hitters so far, and this might even be the key to finally revitalizing his power slump now more than ever. Boston, however, may also be close to pulling out from the sweepstakes concerning third baseman Alex Bregman, whose free agency has been rumored to be at $200 million.
So if the Red Sox are reading their finances right, Arenado might well be the best option for them to bring in with the goal of reinforcing their roster. Who knows? Maybe Arenado will be the key to finally getting them back to the playoff stage.
