After being released by the Green Bay Packers, Jaire Alexander didn’t last long in the free agent market as the Baltimore Ravens signed the cornerback to a one-year deal heading into the 2025 NFL season. This comes as a huge fulfillment of star QB Lamar Jackson’s request to add more depth to their corner crew.

This has been a significant offseason for the Ravens, who continue to make roster upgrades after yet another disappointing 2024 campaign. Nothing has been easy for the team, and every season ending in a loss has surely built a lot of frustration, especially for Jackson. Hopefully, Alexander’s addition will be a fruitful move that gives them a chance to compete at the highest level.

Baltimore is coming into the season as one of the top picks to win the Super Bowl. To get there, however, the Ravens must pass the big hurdles that have been testing them for so long – beating the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs, their rivals in dominating the AFC. With Alexander on the squad, their chances should be better than in the past few years.

A Chance at Redemption

According to reports, Alexander is signed to a one-year deal worth $4 million and comes with at least $2 million in incentives. The incentive package comes on top of the play-time bonuses, which will see the cornerback earning an additional $500,000 when he hits 35, 40, 45, and 50 percent of the team snaps. That is a massive incentive to inspire Alexander to work hard in the coming season.

Alexander brings in a new dynamic to an already superb corner crew, which consists of All-Pro Marlon Humphrey, 2024 first-rounder Nate Wiggins, and veteran Chidobe Awuzie, another signing in the offseason. Should Alexander manage to stay healthy, it seems that he will fit with Wiggins and Humphrey for a promising trio in the corner.

The Packers opted to move on from Alexander after seven seasons, not re-signing him to another deal last week. In a snap, the Ravens immediately worked to sign the former Pro Bowl star, who quickly accepted the offer with the hopes of earning his worth once more.

It is worth noting that Alexander excels well in his position, but it is his health that has been a major concern over the years. He just played in a total of 14 games in the last two seasons, due to multiple injuries, mostly on his groin, back, shoulder, and knee. He even went on to miss the final eight games for the Packers last season, resulting to their Wild Card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Satisfying a Star’s Request

For most of the offseason, the focus for the Ravens is to ensure that Lamar Jackson doesn’t get any ideas of moving to another team. Thus began the massive signings that the team has overhauled so far. Alexander is the latest among them, and the Ravens made sure that they brought in the one requested by Jackson to cap off the offseason.

"He's excited to be here. We're excited to have him," head coach John Harbaugh told reporters Wednesday. "It made Lamar happy. I think it made everybody happy."

Now that the season is coming in hot, it is expected that the Ravens would find a way to solve their woes last year, and finally break through the biggest challenges of the franchise en route to a title.
