The New York Islanders are looking towards a new groove in the coming 2024-25 season so far with head coach Patrick Roy showing up with his impressive demand for excellence and leadership from the team’s training camp, and it does seem that his “fire” is fueling the rest of the Islanders to show up stronger than ever.

At this point, the Islanders are making some big strides in the training camp. Roy took over for the team last January 20th, and he helped the Islanders climb in the final 37 games of the season, which would later see them finish seventh overall in the Eastern Conference, only to get eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Heading into the 2024-25 season, Roy seeks to bring the Islanders to a whole new level – a higher form of competitiveness for the next run. New York hopes to win a Stanley Cup once more – a victory that they haven’t seen since the 1983-84 season. Now the time has come for their competitive strings of playoff performances to finally bear fruit with championships at the end of the day.

Winning Mindset Builds Champions

Roy entered his first training camp with the Islanders yesterday, and many critics point out that a strong start to the 2024-25 season will be crucial to helping them qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The last two seasons saw them need to play strong in the final week of the campaign to secure much-needed points, which just says a lot about how the team is keen to make the most of their chances of winning in the game.

For those who didn’t know, bringing in Roy was indeed seen as the best move that the Islanders have made in the previous season. Many fans have seen the big impact that he had in just the span of 37 games, and now many experts are keen to see what he can offer to the table when he gets to lead the full 82 games.

At this point, it is easy to say that the Islanders truly need his winning mentality and install it for the next campaign. Roy has been quite passionate in his pursuit of winning, and this says a lot about his hopes of actually coming up with a deeper playoff run in the coming season.

In a Nice Place for the Islanders

For Hall of Famer center Pierre Turgeon, the Islanders are expected to be a contending team in the coming season under Roy’s lead. Turgeon played alongside Roy in his time with the Montreal Canadiens back in 1995, and he knows the winning pedigree that the coach brings to the table at this point.

“He's got the fire,” Turgeon said of Roy. “He’s emotional. He’s got all of his emotions under him. He wants to win. He was the same as a player. It was all about one thing. He wants to win. He's got the passion, and I think he did an incredible job last year. He's not easy. He's going to push you to a place where he wants to make sure you're accountable for what you're doing.”

Roy was also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame back in 2006. He has won the Stanley Cup four times in his career and was named an All-Star 11 times in 19 seasons while also winning the Conn Smythe Trophy thrice and the Vezina Trophy three times – a mark of a true winner in the game.
