Overview of August 2025 gaming performance

Each of the state's reported gaming types witnessed increases in revenue year-over-year, including casino win and sports wagering which grew 6.1% and 15.7%, respectively.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has reported the state’s gaming activity throughout August 2025, including a total revenue figure of $642.2m, representing an increase of 15.7% from the prior year period.

Casino win performance

Casino win accounted for the highest revenue of any gaming type in New Jersey for August 2025, increasing by 6.1% year-over-year to $311.9m, with Borgata Atlantic City generating the most revenue of any property after reporting $80.2m for growth of 8.2%.

Hard Rock and Ocean Casino were the only casino hotels to also eclipse the $50m mark in casino win, producing $58.3m and $51.2m, respectively, for increases of 5.3% and 16.2%.

Bally’s Atlantic City and Golden Nugget were the only facilities to witness decreases in casino win year-over-year, having fallen by 7.6% and 1.2%, respectively, for August 2025 revenues of nearly $14.5m and $14.4m. Tropicana reported an August 2025 casino win of $25.9m and grew 3.8%, while Caesars Atlantic City managed to generate $24.8m throughout the period and rise 3.1%.

In total, New Jersey casino hotels generated $234.3m in slot machine win for August 2025, equating to an increase of 5.7%, while table game revenue rose 7.1% for a total of $77.6m across the monthly period. Borgata led all properties in both casino gaming types, producing nearly $60.1m of slot revenue for August 2025 and representing growth of 12.1%, as well as a table game revenue figure of $20.2m which equates to a decrease of 2.2% year-over-year.

Harrah’s and Resorts Atlantic City reported August 2025 casino wins of $26.5m and $16.1m, respectively, representing increases of 5.5% and 0.3%.

iGaming growth

New Jersey once again drove an increase in iGaming revenue from the prior year period, amounting $248.4m for August 2025 which represents growth of 25.2% and primarily driven by FanDuel, having reported $57.1m in revenue for August 2025 and rising 38.2%.

DraftKings produced an August 2025 iGaming revenue figure of $47.1m throughout August 2025, showcasing growth of 9% for New Jersey operations.

BetMGM and Borgata followed the two leaders in iGaming revenue, generating $32.6m and $20.6m for August 2025, respectively, and equating to increases of 46.9% and 1.4% from the prior year period. Caesars Palace reported nearly $17.1m in iGaming revenue for growth of 21.7%, while Hard Rock Bet managed to produce $13.4m and rise 35.3%.

Good to know: Following its inability to reach agreement with the NGCB and New Jersey DGE to begin offering residents of both states sports-related event contracts, Robinhood Derivatives LLC filed lawsuits against each regulator in US District Courts on August 20.

On August 15, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy officially signed bills A5447 and S4282 into law, prohibiting sweepstakes casinos from conducting businesses within the state and establishing new penalties for any unlawful gambling operations.

Should any penalties need to be enforced against sweepstakes operators, the bills also call for the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and Division of Gaming Enforcement to handle such affairs. The state also increased its tax rates on gambling, iGaming and sports wagering in July, with each now set at 19.75% for operators.

Sports wagering results

Throughout August 2025, sports wagering revenue in New Jersey grew 30.6% for a total of $81.9m, while the state’s total betting handle for the month was reported to be $814.3m, equating to an increase of 16.5% year-over-year.

FanDuel once again led the way in online sports wagering revenue, accounting for just over $31.6m and increasing 30.7%, while DraftKings reported a significant rise of 80.1% in online sports wagering revenue to $27.9m.

BetMGM also managed to increase its online sports wagering revenue by 73.2% to $7.7m, while BetFanatics lost $4.1m to bettors throughout August 2025 and witnessed a decrease in revenue of 219.7%.

ESPN Bet, Caesars Sportsbook and Hard Rock Bet reported $2.7m, $3.2m and $1.7m in online sports wagering revenue for August 2025, respectively, but were all eclipsed by bet365 which grew 47% for a total of $5.2m.

On the retail end, Meadowlands Park managed to generate nearly $1.6m of revenue for an increase of 93.2%, and represents the only facility to produce over $1m in revenue throughout the period.

Borgata and Golden Nugget reported August 2025 retail sports wagering losses of $282,827 and $19,829, respectively, while Harrah’s and Ocean Casino each produced approximately $270,000 in retail sports wagering revenue.
