It has been a massive 12 seasons for Lane Johnson with the Philadelphia Eagles, and with his most recent run capped off with a Super Bowl win, it cannot be denied that Johnson is always linked to retirement one season after another. But it seems that touching the Lombardi trophy has given Johnson more reason to play for the Eagles at this point.

A lot of people expected Johnson to move on from the Eagles and ride off into the sunset with Johnson already bringing in another Lombardi Trophy to his collection. However, he has nothing but love for the team in the last 12 years, and he is surely looking forward for more years to come with the team now more than ever.

It can be remembered that Johnson still has two more years left on his deal, and the offensive tackle is definitely bringing high energy to the game for the team, which makes him one of the pivotal pieces for the Eagles heading into their title defense season. With him returning once more, fans can expect Johnson to deliver a bigger run that no fans have seen from the Eagles in a long while.

A Promising Hope for Johnson

Named to six Pro Bowls, Johnson has been a pivotal piece in both Lombardi Trophy runs for the Eagles. His unfailing offensive awareness and strength have rewarded the Eagles well with a lot of impressive wins in his career, and all of that has happened with him set to turn 35 this May.

In 2024 alone, Johnson has managed to allow only just 10 QB pressures, which is the fewest among all qualifying offensive tackles – while also giving up zero sacks and just a lone QB hit, which says a lot about his impact on the Eagles’ run as a veteran player who’s seen it all on the big stage.

Despite all that, his age and closing window in the game are nothing to be considered at all – he has enough left in the tank to go for a potential third ring and join a lot of Super Bowl legends in the game as well. On top of that, more years for Johnson means a chance to groom potential OTs in the long run, as the team did with Jason Kelce and Cam Jurgens.

The Will to Win

Johnson entered the Super Bowl LIX with a lot of motivation. The OT had a lot of memories that served as fuel to their fire when he brought up the “0 Sacks” shirts won by the Kansas City Chiefs in their Super Bowl LVII victory parade, and they sure did deliver that kind of strong message to knock off the defending champs.

"Last time being here, that shit changed my life...I put on a good show, but I left that motherfucker so empty,” said Johnson. “Shit doesn't matter but winning ... Ask yourself how you want to be remembered. Remember the shirts they had on at their parade. Keep that in mind while y’all are annihilating him tomorrow.”

Well, as it turns out, those words weren’t just hype as the Eagles took it personally – they shut down Patrick Mahomes indefinitely and they finished the night with a career-worst 6 sacks on Mahomes – which is one shy from the Super Bowl record. On top of that, they had two massive interceptions and a dominant 40-22 victory at the Superdome in New Orleans.

Johnson has been an iconic player for Philadelphia over the years, and it is no surprise that fans would love to see him back in action once more as he returns for more years with the Eagles – on the hunt for more titles.
