LA Galaxy Dominates Semis, Now Inches Away from MLS Cup Final Berth
After one LA team was surprisingly knocked out of the MLS Cup, the pressure was now on the LA Galaxy to stay alive and not suffer the same fate that their counterparts did. So far, they played with a lot of impressive groove as they took down Minnesota FC without much hassle, pushing their way to a 6-2 victory that proved to be quite a storied win.
It is hard to argue that LA Galaxy was poised to win it all right from the start, and now they are just two wins away from securing their legacy on the big stage. At this point, it cannot be denied that they are really gunning for a shot to crown themselves atop the MLS world now more than ever.
With LAFC eliminated from playoff contention, LA Galaxy now remains the most dominant team to have a clear and massive odds to win the MLS Cup as there are no other contenders to look out for this time with the amount of upsets that fans have seen in the past few weeks.
A Massive Win to Remember
It has been clear that this was LA Galaxy’s game to lose, and Gabriel Pec kicked off the blazing goal runs for the team when he scored right off the bat behind an assist from Riqui Puig. Minnesota would level it in the sixth minute, but Galaxy would go on to be undaunted with a promising push to their run in the next set of minutes.
Joveljic scored a goal in the 18th minute to make it 2-1 for Galaxy behind an assist from Marco Reus, and the latter scorer would assist Paintsil in the 37th minute to come up with a 3-1 lead by halftime. Things would go on to be heated in the later parts of the game, with Yeboah scoring his second and final goal for Minnesota to cut the lead at 3-2.
Galaxy turned up the ante in the later parts the second half as Pec scored his second goal to adjust the lead at 4-2, then a double for Paintsil in the 86th minute to put the game away for good. Joveljic would also cap off his second goal of the night to close the game for good in the 89th minute after closing it out to a 6-2 victory – a massive show of dominance for the Galaxy like no other.
By the Numbers
LA dominated the game in all departments. They held the ball for 69.8% of the game, including nine shots on target off 15 shots. Galaxy was also on display in the passing lanes, completing 680 compared to Minnesota’s 236, for a stunning 92.2 passing accuracy. Fans at the Dignity Health Sports Park were pleased at the ending, and it cannot be denied that this is a statement win for Galaxy.
On the other side of games, the New York Red Bulls dominated NYC in a clean sheet at 2-0, while Orlando knocked out Atlanta in their clash. LAFC, however, was unfortunate to lose in their semis clash against the Seattle Sounders – with the latter now advancing to the Conference final in the hopes of punctuating their own glory in the game.
At this point, LA Galaxy stands alone at the top of the odds with +289 to win it all in the MLS Cup, which seemingly proves that they are indeed expected to win it all at this point.
