Jamal Adams Set to Reinforce Lions' Injured Defensive Line
Jamal Adams is set to bring his talents for the Detroit Lions with the hopes of fortifying the team’s defensive line after a string of injuries have nearly banged up the squad. So far, the former All-Pro safety says that he is very fortunate to play for the team at this point where they are already making a lot of noise in the NFL in the season.
The Lions are one of the best teams in the league and stand with the same record as the Kansas City Chiefs at 11-1. So far, the team has been able to withstand tough games and deliver fantastic finishes, but it is also obvious that their defense has taken a massive hit considering how rough many offenses have been in their previous games.
With Adams coming in, the hope for the Lions is to continue on their winning track now more than ever, while also ensuring that they can keep on finding ways to avert losses and hold the line until defense comes back strong – just in time for the playoffs as well.
Defense Wins Championships
The Lions sitting atop the NFC remains quite a promising look at this point considering how the team has managed to become one of the most competitive teams to look out for. They have a +180 net-point total, just followed closely by Buffalo with +131 and the Chiefs at +54. At this point, their defense has been the winning factor so far, and it cannot be denied that Adams will play a huge role in the long run should he be further integrated into the squad.
"I mean, they've been kicking everybody's ass," Adams said of the Lions. "So I'm fortunate enough to, again, just to be on a team that's rolling like that. And whatever I can do to help, that's what I'm here for. I mean, there's no better opportunity, man. Obviously, just being home in Dallas and just continuing to train. When A.G. (defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn) called, it was a no-brainer for me."
Adams is expected to be the remedy for one of the strongest defenses in the league, and it cannot be denied that he will be definitely getting more minutes in the game as a linebacker. With Malcolm Rodriguez out for the meantime, expect him to back the likes of Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch.
Adams the Enforcer
Adams was one of the best picks for New York back in the day, and he earned the Pro Bowl nods in three of his first four seasons. However, the star would go on to struggle to stay on the field and find a spot that really blends well with his skill set. He would go on to play for Seattle in four seasons before being released in March, then joining Tennessee over the summer but being limited to just three games before he was placed on the reserve list for the Titans.
At 213 pounds, there are high expectations that Adams would be used as a blitzer as well. Earlier in his career, the Jets’ first-rounder has been proficient in timing blitzes. With the Lions’ own linebackers having struggles to light up the fire this season, it does seem that Adams would get his own chance to prove his worth according to head coach Dan Campbell.
"So we've got some guys that we're gonna get a look at and see, with what we have on this roster, who we can use, how we can use them, what gives us the best chance. There may be a place, there may be a place here for Jamal and today's gonna tell a lot. This will be our full speed today, we're gonna get really good movement.”
