There's good news on the Pennsylvania front: this November, iGaming revenue in the state reached an all-time high, garnering more than $200 million. The greatest revenue-makers were online slots and table games, which were up by 36% and 7%, respectively.

Pennsylvania's gaming industry achieved an unprecedented milestone this November of 2024, with gross gaming revenue reaching a record $562.36 million, marking a 26% increase compared to November 2023. This remarkable growth was driven by a surge in online gaming and sports betting, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

A historic performance

The previous monthly GGR record of $554.6 million, set in March 2024, was surpassed as November became the state's highest-grossing month for gaming. Pennsylvania's diverse gaming portfolio, encompassing 17 land-based casinos, online gaming, sports betting, truck stop video gaming terminals, and fantasy sports, played a crucial role in this achievement.

Notably, November 2024 benefited from an additional weekend day, but the record-setting numbers were primarily fueled by robust online activity and favorable outcomes for oddsmakers during key NFL and college football games.

iGaming and sports betting surge

Interactive gaming was a standout performer, with online slots generating $148.6 million in GGR, a 36% year-over-year increase, and online table games contributing $49.5 million, up by 7%. Online poker added $2.2 million, bringing total iGaming revenue to a groundbreaking $200.4 million. This was the first time in Pennsylvania's history that online gaming revenue exceeded $200 million in a single month. Compared to November 2023, online gaming operators won $42.5 million more from players.

Sports betting also shattered records, with sportsbooks reporting $77.1 million in revenue. This figure represented a staggering $64.2 million increase from November 2023. Key events, including the Cleveland Browns' upset victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State's struggles against Ohio State and Minnesota, contributed to oddsmakers' windfall. The Philadelphia 76ers' lackluster performance, losing 11 of 14 games, further boosted sportsbook profits.

Valley Forge Casino leads the pack

Boyd Gaming's Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia emerged as the top-grossing casino in Pennsylvania for November 2024, with a total GGR of $102.5 million. However, the bulk of its revenue came from its online operations rather than its physical casino.

Valley Forge's physical casino floor generated $11.5 million in revenue, while its online casino operations, including its partnership with FanDuel and the self-operated Stardust Online Casino, contributed $54.1 million. Additionally, FanDuel Sportsbook, the dominant sports betting platform in Pennsylvania, brought in $36.8 million on a handle of $373.6 million.

Hollywood Casino takes second place

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantville ranked second in revenue, generating $90.4 million in November. Like Valley Forge, Hollywood Casino relied heavily on its online business, with remote gaming operations contributing $74.4 million to its revenue.

The physical casino floor at Hollywood Casino accounted for just $13 million in revenue, while its sports betting operations added $2.8 million on a handle of $43.8 million.

Retail gaming remains steady

In-person gaming also saw modest growth in November 2024. Retail slot revenue totaled $201.5 million, reflecting a 6% year-over-year increase, while retail table games generated $77.5 million, a slight 2.5% decline compared to November 2023.

The record-breaking performance in November showcases Pennsylvania’s thriving gaming industry, particularly its iGaming and sports betting sectors. With strong partnerships and online platforms and a growing player base, the state continues to establish itself as a leader in the US gaming market. As the year is set to conclude, Pennsylvania's gaming operators are all set to build on this momentum, potentially setting new benchmarks in the months ahead.
