Davante Adams Opens Up About Being Traded to the New York Jets
Following his recent injury where he went on to miss three games in a row, Davante Adams has now found himself in a new environment with the New York Jets after the Las Vegas Raiders sent him out on a trade deal that now reunites him with star quarterback and former teammate Aaron Rodgers.
The Jets are one of the teams that have struggled to stay on the winning side to begin the first six games of the season, and it cannot be denied that the team has been needing some winning strides. With Adams coming in, it does seem that they can get an impressive performer who can impact their coming games, especially with Week 7 now in tow.
Adams has been quite the performer at his peak, and he claims that he is ready to roll with the Jets in the coming game against the New England Patriots. At this point, it does seem that Adams can be himself now more than ever, and this is something that he has wanted to begin October after he sat out a game where the Raiders went on to score a 16-10 win against the Cleveland Browns.
A Fresh Start Again
As documented in the Receiver series produced by Netflix, Adams has been discontent with his role with the Raiders all the way back to last season. It did ignite some moves for the team to bring in Gardner Minshew, only to further insinuate the matter for the wide receiver. Now that he is with the Jets, it is expected that he will get a chance to showcase his game and further improve his level of play.
"It's been a roller coaster, for sure. It's a weird thing to say that I'm happy, but obviously it was time for a change," Adams said. "This whole thing transpired a little weird, but at the end of the day, we're in a better place. I think that the Raiders are in a better place, as well. Everybody can kinda move on."
In an interview, Adams also revealed that he did pinpoint his trade destination, New York. Adams played in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers for eight seasons from 2014 to 2021. That resulted in five division championships in seven playoff appearances. Now that they are back at it together, it does seem that the duo has the chance to complete some unfinished business.
Finding Better Success
Adams will now have a much better chance to come up with wins and find success with Rodgers compared to the time he spent with Minshew or even Aidan O’Connell. So far, the Jets were seeking to bring in a new WR to pair with Adams after Rodgers openly expressed his disappointment with his current partner Mike Williams.
"It's great just being back, being able to be with my guy," Adams said. "First and foremost, just being able to spend time with him everyday again is something that I put a lot of value on. Just having his company, but obviously having him as my quarterback again, he's part of why I am who I am and why I turned into the player.”
The Jets are slated to take on the New England Patriots in Week 7 of NFL action this season and are favorites to win by at least six points on the spread. This means that Adams – who is expected to suit up – will have to play a huge role in leading the team to claim its third win of the season.
