Commanders Seek to Reach Super Bowl Berth in NFC Championship Clash with Eagles
After pulling off two massive upset wins against some of the best teams in the NFC, it seems that the Washington Commanders have seen a renewed sense of hope heading into their showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC Championships, and it is going down for real as a ticket to the Super Bowl is on the line.
The best is yet to come, and that’s what was expected of the Commanders at this point after the team somehow found a way to outsmart the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and crash the hopes of the NFC’s top seed in the Detroit Lions in two straight games. At this point, one can expect Washington to give it all they’ve got, and this will yet be the best that they have to battle through at this point.
Much like they did in their games against Tampa Bay and Detroit, the Commanders will have to conjure a bold game plan that would be able to take down the Eagles, who have been one of the toughest teams to beat in the NFC over the past few years. If there’s a perfect time for Washington to showcase what they’ve got, this is the big stage they have been waiting for.
Building Confidence Ahead
It cannot be denied that the Commanders have gained a massive rise in their success in the 2024 NFL Playoffs so far. They have been giant killers so far, taking down Baker Mayfield and the Bucs without much hassle, and then they dismantled the Detroit Lions, showing what fraud of a star Jared Goff has been for the team at this point.
For this game, however, it does seem that Washington will have to show that they have matured in a short span of time. Even head coach Dan Quinn knows that it will take a miracle to pull off a win now more than ever.
"I think going into the game we knew we would have to be bold on some spots, whether that was third and fourth downs when he'd have to use his legs, when he'd be able to, whether it was hand it off, rip it, whatever that looked like," Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said.
"And those are spots that are important on the fourth downs. But I thought as important in the second half, some long drives that used time to go down the field and using all the shot clock so we can just make sure all of those moments that we go. Whether it's huddling, whether it's using all the shot clock, extending plays. Those were some of the things that jumped out to me.”
The Odds to Win
Coming off a 45-31 win against the Lions, the Commanders are looking like the promising team that they have been projected to be in years. So far, this campaign has been quite a surprise – with Washington initially being set at +6000 to win the NFC and +15000 to win the Super Bowl at the start of the season.
So far, the Commanders are set as underdogs at +230, while the Eagles are on the high side at -280. The spread also favors the Eagles at -6, with the score expected to have totals of 47.5 points.
For now, it does seem that it is a mountain too high to climb, but Daniels has been amazing. He will likely win OROY. He threw for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. That should play a huge difference in their chances of winning this time.
