Chiefs' Odds on the Fence with Current Mahomes Injury

With just a few more weeks left to play in the NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs are now put into a scary situation with Patrick Mahomes expected to be uncertain for the coming games of the season. This has affected some odds for the Super Bowl this coming year – where the Chiefs are considered the top pick to win.
After the Chiefs’ Sunday win against the Cleveland Browns, the NFL world has been shocked with the status of star QB Patrick Mahomes left uncertain after recent tests revealed that he did suffer a mild high ankle sprain. Initial prognosis claimed that Mahomes will be put into week to week status – and the Chiefs are facing massive turnarounds on Week 16 and 17 so far.
Right now, it does seem that fans will have to wait for Mahomes to come up with a new update considering how the star has been known for his history of injuries, and now it seems that there are a lot of hopes that he will recover well, and on time for the playoffs as the Chiefs seek to come up with three title wins in a row.
A History of Injuries
Mahomes is one of the most fragile QBs that the game has seen thanks to his history of ankle injuries. He had a similar one back in Jacksonville just to begin the 2019 season, but what was more prominent among his injuries was in the 2022 season where he hurt his ankle after pulling off a divisional round win against the Jaguars.
He would go on to play through the pain to help the Chiefs beat Cincinnati for the AFC title and then catapulted Kansas City to their promising victory in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles. Still, Mahomes sees these injuries as a different look for his career.
“I mean, they’re all different. Every injury is different,” Mahomes said. “You know what you have to do to get back. And I think that is the most important thing. And now we just get back to the rehab part — the treatment part — and try to get ourselves ready on a short week against a good football team.”
Mahomes would go on to limp towards the sideline when he felt the injury, while Carson Wentz played the rest of the game in his place. The star would even suggest that he would get back to the field if he ever the Browns would get closer than a point.
What to Expect from the Chiefs Moving Forward?
The Chiefs are slated to play the Houston Texans on December 21 and then the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day. Both of these teams are playoff contenders and are seriously hoping to come up with a push to the top of the AFC to wrap up their season. It does seem that the team will have some interesting tweaks to consider if they plan to finish the season strong.
“We’ll just see how it goes,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said after Sunday’s game. “We are going to go day to day as we go through it. I don’t know how much swelling he has or any of that, so we don’t know what will come.”
Kansas City is also set to play the Denver Broncos in the final gameday of the season – another team that is also gunning for a playoff spot by the end of the campaign, which just means that having Mahomes out will do them no good now more than ever, let alone when the playoffs begin.
