On top of that, Rose would play the later years of his career with the Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, New York Knicks, and the Phoenix Suns before finally retiring in 2007. He finished with career averages of 14.3 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game by the end of his run in the NBA.

Rose was popular for many reasons – collegiate success, involvement in the University of Michigan basketball scandal, injuring Kobe Bryant in the 2000 NBA Finals, and of course, being on the receiving end of the historic 81-point performance of Kobe Bryant against Rose’s Toronto Raptors in 2006.

That prominence by Jalen Rose resulted in a huge surge of African-American boys born in the 1990s and early 2000s to be named Jalen. It is worth noting that by the time Rose retired in 2007, he was still the only Jalen to ever play in the NBA. Since then, a massive number of American players named Jalen entered the NBA, which says a lot about how he came up with a trend-setting career in the sports world.
