Regulators reported more than $81 million in sports wagering revenue and over $800 million in handle, underscoring the continued strength of New Jersey’s sports betting market.

In the middle of a hot summer, the reports of sports wagering activity at sportsbooks in New Jersey revealed a tremendous increase in bets being placed. That proved to be a boon to sports betting operators and the state in August.
Sports wagering gross revenue for online and retail sportsbooks was $81.9 million last month, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
That’s a whopping 30.6% year-over-year increase. Total handle of $814.3 million in August was a 16% increase from a year ago.
Operators reported a 10.06% hold last month, the fourth consecutive month that hold percentage was in double-digits, tying a previous record for New Jersey sports betting.
Sports Betting Revenue in 2025 Compared to 2024
Overall for 2025, sports wagering gross revenue rests at $708.7 million through the end of August.
That’s practically the same as it was a year ago, just a 1% decrease compared to the $715.8 million in 2024 through the first eight months.
Online sports wagering revenue made up the vast portion of the August 2025 activity. Nearly $80 million ($79.3 million) came from mobile sportsbooks in New Jersey.
FanDuel Leads the Way in August
FanDuel Sportsbook reported the most revenue in August from New Jersey sports betting, with DraftKings Sportsbook just a bit behind.

- DraftKings Sportsbook (Resorts): $27.9 million
- BetMGM Sportsbook (Borgata): $7.7 million
- Bet365 Sportsbook (Hard Rock): $5.2 million
- Caesars Sportsbook (Tropicana): $3.2 million
DraftKings saw a huge 80% spike in winnings in August compared to the same month in 2024, while chief competitor FanDuel came in with a 30.6% year-over-year increase.
Fanatics Sportsbook reported a loss of just over $4 million, which suggests the sportsbook was victimized by a bettor who struck a large win in August.
