Dodgers Bolster Bullpen with Tanner Scott Signing

Coming off another offseason move in bringing in Roki Sasaki last Friday, it does seem that the roster shift for the Los Angeles Dodgers doesn’t end there yet as the team continues to add key pieces into their roster. This time, the bullpen gets a massive upgrade with Tanner Scott signing in to join the Dodgers in their bid for a return to the championship stage.
Tanner Scott has been a dominant player as a reliever in the past two seasons, and he has managed to deliver a massive 2024 campaign where he posted a 1.75 ERA and reached his first All-Star Game. However, despite being traded from the Marlins to the PAdres, Scott showed that he can be dominant even in the postseason.
If you are not impressed about what he can bring to the table, it can be remembered that he struck out seven over 4 ⅓ scoreless innings – including Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani in all the four games they have played against one another.
A New Campaign for Scott
The agreed deal sees Scott joining the Dodgers with a $72 million contract for four years, and includes a $20 million signing bonus to go with $21 million in deferred salary according to sources. His impact on the Dodgers’ pitching staff cannot be understated, and it does seem that there will be a lot of hope for him to reignite the team’s hopes of repeating as a World Series winner again.
Scott’s addition strengthens the Dodgers' bullpen, providing a reliable back-end arm for what is shaping up to be one of the league’s top relief units. Blake Treinen has already re-signed with L.A., and Michael Kopech, Alex Vesia, and Brusdar Graterol are all set to return. The bullpen was a key factor in the Dodgers' 2024 World Series championship, and with Scott poised to lock down the ninth inning, it could be even more formidable in 2025.
It can be remembered that it was a massive look when Scott struck out Ohtani, and it does seem to be quite a different look now considering that the two are now playing for the same club, which means that it will be a strongly overpowered Dodgers squad to look out for. In the previous season, Scott has already logged 1.75 ERA and a scant 25.7% hard-hit rate after the trade – and that goes along with a strong 8.0% walk rate.
As a force in San Diego’s bullpen, it speaks volumes as to what he can offer to the Dodgers at this point. It can be remembered that the Padres pushed Los Angeles to the brink back in the National League Division Series, and one can say that the two teaming up together is a different view at this point.
A Massive Offseason for LA
The Dodgers are sending a clear message that they’re not content with just one championship. Since winning the World Series, they’ve added Scott, Sasaki, Blake Snell, Michael Conforto, and Hyeseong Kim, while also bringing back Blake Treinen, Teoscar Hernández, and Tommy Edman.
It’s been a remarkable offseason for L.A. No team has repeated as champions since the 2000 Yankees completed their three-peat, but the Dodgers—already favorites to defend their title in 2025—have made a bold statement with their aggressive moves this winter.
Capping it off with Scott just shows the league that they are still a team to beat, and no one is going to slack off in LA as this star-studded team just looks to continue dominating the MLB stage once more.
