Jayden Daniels has been really making a strong case to be named the NFL Rookie of the Year now more than ever, but what if he can be also considered to be the MVP candidate for this season? It is hard to turn a blind eye to his impressive games in the season, and it cannot be denied that his massive numbers are showing that he definitely deserves huge recognition for his contributions in lifting the Washington Commanders.
Breaking the Trend of MVPs
Forget about the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Aaron Rodgers, it is time to acknowledge the fact that there are new names on the rise. Over the years, these three names have dominated the MVP campaign along with some other known candidates who have continued to make their presence felt in the league, and that says a lot about the trend of the MVP winners we have seen over the years.
However, it cannot be denied that Jayden Daniels is making his presence felt on the big stage. Sure, there’s the big performances from clear MVP candidates such as Josh Allen, Jared Goff, CJ Stroud, and many other names, but it is hard to ignore that Daniels is making bigger strides that the team needed over the years. At this point, one can say that Daniels deserves the hype he’s getting right now as a promising pick to win the MVP.
Has There Been a Rookie MVP?
Winning the MVP is no easy feat in the NFL, especially with the vast amount of talent and elite players present in the game, one can say that there are indeed a lot of competition – making it hard for rookies to make the biggest splash that are expected from them. As a rookie to be regarded as the best player in a single season, you have to be able to move mountains and deliver massive performances on the big stage night in and night out.
That’s what was seen in Jim Brown’s rookie season back in 1957. He is the only rookie to ever win the MVP award in the history of the league. By the end of the campaign, he finished as a Pro Bowler and was named to the All-NFL Team – tallying impressive numbers of 942 rushing yards, 202 carries, and nine touchdowns in 12 games.
By the end of his career, Brown’s rookie season looked like a stepping stone when he retired with totals of 12,312 yards, 106 rushing touchdowns, 2,499 receiving yards, 262 catches, and 20 touchdowns through the air. He finished his career as a unanimous player named to the All-NFL First Team eight times, nine times as a Pro Bowler, and a three-time MVP – all without missing a single game.
Is Jayden Daniels a Deserving MVP Candidate?
That being said, it is expected that Jayden Daniels is definitely held to high standards. We have seen him perform at a high level for the Commanders on a weekly basis, and this says a lot about how he is making waves as an elite star on the rise now more than ever. The Commanders are riding on his back, and one can say that he is definitely due for some high recognition now more than ever. The Rookie of the Year looks tasty, but one can argue that he has a promising case for the MVP as well.
Lifting the Commanders to Bigger Heights
You have to be impressed with the impact that Jayden Daniels is putting up right now to help the Commanders reach new heights in the game so far. Boasting a 6-2 record to come up with the second spot in the NFC, one can say that the team has really figured out some new groove thanks to the addition of Jayden Daniels, who has called a lot of impressive plays since his debut in the 2024 season. So far, the Commanders have become perfect at home and stand as the only top-five team to do so, and Daniels’ big game has significantly impacted that.
Blazing Performances in the Rookie Season
Not every rookie gets a chance to showcase impressive performances on the big stage, but Jayden Daniels did not back down in showing that he has what it takes to win big, even beating Caleb Williams – his draft classmate selected by the Chicago Bears – in their first meeting this year. As of the time of writing, Jayden Daniels is the league leader in EPA or expected points added per play – a promising MVP stat line where only Cam Newton Lamar Jackson led the same line but did not win the award in that run. If that is not a strong case for MVP, I don’t know what would be.
Significant Impact in his First Year with Washington
In case you are a new follower of the NFL, the Washington Commanders aren’t exactly a contender team to begin with. So far, the Commanders finished the 2023 season with a disappointing record at 4-13, good for the bottom third of the NFC, just a mere points ahead of the Panthers and Cardinals. This season with Jayden Daniels inserted to the lineup? We are seeing a bigger surge for the Commanders, now contending for the top spot of the NFC – and not even the Super Bowl contenders San Francisco 49ers are coming in to challenge that spot.
Can Jayden Daniels Win the 2024 NFL MVP Award?
As of the time of writing, the Washington Commanders are definitely making the most of their chances to come up with a promising run in the season. It cannot be denied that Jayden Daniels has a hand on that end, and one can say that this is definitely a huge note to consider for his MVP case now more than ever. Still, it is hard to say that Daniels will actually win but, his odds are definitely on the rise, and one can say that his big games will continue to improve – building on his chances of winning at this point.
