The 2023-24 campaign of the NFL was disappointing for the Baltimore Ravens, especially with the way it ended in front of their home crowd. Now with a new hope, there is something that the team can change in their approach, especially with the team getting more frustrated in their tough losses over the years.
How Did the Ravens Fare in the 2023-24 Season?
The Ravens were one of the best teams in the NFL in the previous season – and they were even strong favorites to win the Super Bowl that time. This was their 16th year under head coach John Harbaugh – who led the team in their impressive success from scratch. The team improved to 13-4 after finishing 10-7 in the previous campaign while also securing the 1st seed in AFC North, and the best record in the NFL – which says a lot about the high expectations that were given to the team.
This 13-4 record included 10 wins over teams above the .500 mark, and they never trailed a game in the season until the very last game against the Pittsburgh Steelers – where their starters didn’t play. On top of all that, the Ravens led the league in sacks, takeaways, and points per game – the first in league history to pull off that kind of feat.
In the playoffs, the Chiefs blew out the Houston Texans in a 34-10 victory in the Divisional Round – earning them their first AFC Championship Game since 2012. It was a long time coming for the team, and fans were highly excited about their chances. The Ravens, however, went on to lose at home to then-Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs at 10-17.
What’s Next for the Baltimore Ravens?
With the previous season already behind them, it does seem that the Baltimore Ravens can now look forward to a different plan moving to the next campaign. Setting all the failures aside and the mistakes of the previous season, what should fans now expect from the Ravens as they usher in a new dawn?
Signing Madubuike to a Max Deal
There is no denying that Justin Madubuike is one of the most consistent performers in the season for the Ravens. While he is considered to be one of the best defensive players on the team, it cannot be denied that Madubuike has done a great job of proving that he is one of the shining rookies that the NFL should look out for. What set him apart from the rest of the defensive players in the team is his impact on the clutch – with a total of 13 sacks in the season alone.
With his rookie deal finally over, the defensive tackle is expected to have a bright future in the game, and it looks like the Ravens will be keen to land him a new deal – probably a max deal to keep him alongside Lamar Jackson with the hopes of him being the ringleader of the defensive unit in the coming season if he continues to play at a high level as well. Who knows, he may even end up being in for MVP conversation.
Madubuike is one of the coveted free agents in the market, and the Ravens usually let their players test their worth in free agency before signing them. Still, it is a priority for them to sign the defensive tackle while also scouring the market with a running back who could pair well with Jackson on the attack.
Targeting Keon Coleman
The Florida State wide receiver had a remarkable year since moving from Michigan State before the 2023 season. So far, he has done a great job tallying 658 yards, including 11 touchdowns – leading the team in those stats. With his impressive numbers and high offensive upside, it is a no-brainer that he can land at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft, which is coming this April.
Coleman is already projected to be headed for Baltimore. But with a lot of good talents in the draft, the Ravens may be lucky enough to get him with the 30th pick. With Odell Beckham Jr. being a free agent and Rashod Bateman not having quite a great stretch, it falls to the Ravens to find an alternate muscle in Keon Coleman for Jackson to throw the football to. With the way he plays, Coleman may be a good pick to partner with Zay Flowers or even Mark Andrews.
In his college run, Coleman managed to be a first-team All-ACC Selection and was mainly an all-around player in his own right.
He was hailed as a strong punt returner with averages of 12.6 yards on 24 attempts, amassing a total of 302 yards. These numbers do seem like they can help the Ravens with an improved flow in their games, which is something they needed back then.
Winning the Super Bowl LIX
Super Bowl 59 is starting to be a big run that the Ravens are aiming for. After having a taste of the AFC Championship Game, the next step is to move forward and come up with better strides in their games in the playoffs. This is why the expectations are high for the team, and you can bet that they will do everything they can to win it all.
For a fun fact, the last two times that the Ravens won the Super Bowl were 12 years apart from each other. And if you believe in coincidences, this coming season will mark the 12th year since their last win. The talent isn’t going anywhere, for sure, and there is a lot of talent in the squad which says how much of their chances are on the big stage.
Super Bowl LIX is set to be held in New Orleans at the Superdome, and you wouldn’t believe it if I said that it was also the same place where the Ravens last lifted the Lombardi Trophy as the best team in the league. If the pattern serves us right, then it would seem that the Ravens are due for a Super Bowl victory for the first time in 12 years.
Setting the Expectations for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2024-25 Season
Realistic expectations are important for the Baltimore Ravens en route to the 2024-25 campaign. We’re talking about one of the best teams to ever play the game, and after their impressive stride, it does seem that the team has a chance to come up with a strong boost in their games especially if they get to make some upgrades in the offseason.
However, it is also important to note that the team will have to face reinvigorated squads in the coming season. The Ravens will have to brave their way in a crowded AFC, and will have to come up with some crazy runs that will deliver them to the next level – which is the Super Bowl. Fans will have to wait to see what the team has to offer this season, but true fans know that this is their time to shine now more than ever.
