From one historic finish after another, it seems that Team USA’s triumph in Men’s Basketball at the Olympic stage was more of a strong message that says a lot about why they are still the most dominant force in the game. A lot of contenders tried to take down the United States, but none managed to come up with a promising push that managed to see them end at the top of the basketball world. But what does the Olympic win mean for the USABMNT?
What Was At Stake for Team USA?
The Olympics are always seen as a high-stakes game that is deemed to be quite a statement tournament all the time. Of course, there were a lot of emotions in the final of the men’s basketball in the Olympics when the United States emerged victorious against France and delivered a promising win as a wave of American flags flew across the arena, it was a story to remember for many fans.
The gold medal was secured on a massive note, and the United States reigned supreme at the end of the day. That’s how you fight for the glory and honor in basketball when there are a lot of stakes in the game. One can say that Team USA has done a great job of proving itself as one of the best teams in the world, and it showed the contenders that they still have what it takes to win.
For one, the dominance of the United States was put in question over the years. As the nation where basketball is born, it is worth noting that they should reign supreme on the big stage against the best basketball teams in the world. So far, they have done a great job of securing that feat, and now they have won the Olympic gold for five years in a row, which is a testament to their dominance and success on the big stage.
That prompted USABMNT to field its best players. LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant led the way for the massive campaign to take its finish to another level. With a lot of star players fielded, it was easy to assume that Team USA would have the best odds to finish with the win. At the end of the day, Team USA did what they were expected to do: They came. They saw. They conquered.
What did Team USA Prove in its Olympic Campaign?
Team USA’s stakes were more of a bragging rights talk, and it proved to be the storied campaign that many fans have waited for. So far, we have seen the Dream Team, which was the first team to feature NBA stars and was dubbed as the greatest team ever assembled. We would then see the Redeem team, which came up with the goal of re-establishing the United States’ dominance on the big stage after finishing bronze in the 2004 Olympics.
Then came “The Avengers”. The media gave them this nickname due to its roster being composed of high-profile players and top-notch players who have won massive individual and team awards in the NBA. And like the previous two teams, they have established a legacy like no other.
They are World Champions Indeed
Remember when Noah Lyles went off against the NBA saying that the league does not deserve to call its winning team in the NBA Finals as “World Champions”, considering the fact that the NBA’s teams are only based in the United States and Canada? While there are also international players present in the league, it is worth noting that NBA players from the United States did not like this comment either. And while it took some time before they actually proved their point, Team USA savored the moment that Lyles finished bronze in the 200-meter sprint while they managed to clinch the gold medal at the end of the campaign.
Curry is the Greatest Shooter in the Game
Many questioned Stephen Curry’s brilliance in the game after the Golden State Warriors’ reign of dominance in the NBA ended in a snap. However, the star guard would not be denied as he would go on to deliver one of the biggest performances in the Olympics. Curry helped the United States pull off a comeback against Serbia in the semis as he scored 36 points off 9 of 14 shooting from three and did the same when the United States battled France to the end with eight threes for 24 points to seal the deal and blow the game wide open at the end of the fourth. That alone cemented his point as the best shooter in the NBA, and now the whole world.
LeBron is Basketball’s King
While Curry had his biggest moments in the game, it cannot be denied that this was LeBron James’ show right from the start, and he did finish well with his campaign in the Olympics. Many fans and critics argue that this will be James’ final run at the Olympic Games, and he did not disappoint in that regard, showing that he has what it takes to win big even at the age of 39. Sure, he was posterized by Guerschon Yabusele – but that meant nothing as James went on to cap off his third medal campaign with a bang. James was named as the Olympic MVP for this year’s edition of men’s basketball, and he sure did finish well with a string of all-around performances that would go on to help Team USA cap of with a gold medal finish.
Avengers Completed Their Avenging
Many fans and critics said that Team USA’s reign of dominance was over after Germany went on to win the gold medal in the FIBA World Cup, with the USA finishing fourth after losing the battle for bronze to Canada as well. That was quite a story and a new chapter for many teams – until the Olympics came and the Avengers assembled. The team sure did not hold back when they had to go up against some of the best teams in the world, such as Serbia, Germany, and even France in the final. So far. This is one of the biggest campaigns to remember in the game, and one can say that the Avengers may not have really protected their title in the World Cup, but they sure did avenge it in the Olympics.
A Story of Dominance for the United States
The World Cup campaign is finally over, and it goes without saying that the United States has seen one of the best basketball stories unfold with arguably one of the best teams in the world. Sure, we may no longer see LeBron James in the next campaign, but one can say that this has sent a strong message to the rest of the world that Team USA does not back down from a fight on the biggest stage of basketball.
