The Boston Celtics have become one of the most promising teams to look out for in the 2024-25 season after a promising campaign in the previous run, and it cannot be denied that they have made some impressive strides, some even say that they are poised to begin another Boston Dynasty that has been a running theme over the years. However, it cannot be denied that there are a lot of fans who are hoping to see more of the team’s exploits in the coming season now more than ever.
The last time the Celtics established a dynasty, the team went on to win a total of eight championships in a row, including 10 NBA Finals wins in 11 runs. In total, the Boston Celtics have won the most league titles in the NBA with 18 titles, losing only five of their 23 Finals appearances so far.
Previous Season in Review
The Celtics have reached their height for this decade, going as far as to finish with a 64-18 record and finish with the best record in the NBA all the way to the NBA Finals. So far, it cannot be denied that Boston has become a promising team to watch. It has been a long time coming as the team needed a total of eight years before they actually managed to come up with an NBA championship, falling short in the 2022 NBA Finals where they lost to the Golden State Warriors.
So far, the Celtics have become a different breed of team. They have added Jrue Holiday, who is arguably the best two-way defender in the league with a promising skill to come up with a huge defensive stop. Let’s not forget that the Celtics have acquired Kristaps Porzingis, who proved to be a pivotal addition to the team, especially in his massive performance in the NBA Finals.
Of course, there’s the rise of Jaylen Brown as a promising player to watch. He has definitely silenced all of his critics with his impressive game, being named the Eastern Conference Finals MVP and even the NBA Finals MVP. His impact on the game cannot be understated at this point, and one can say that he has become the ace for the Celtics at this point.
Of course, Jayson Tatum did not finish this season without coming under fire from many critics. The Celtics are so good that even if Tatum finishes with a poor performance, they would still win by double digits in the game. That has been the running criticism for the Celtics captain, and it remains to be seen how he has been quite on the fence when it comes to his status as a star.
Still, what else are the critics are gonna say? The Celtics came, saw, and conquered at this point, and now they are ready to come up with a promising run in the 2024-25 season once more.
Potential Starting Five
The Celtics have a promising squad to look out for, and it cannot be denied that the team is expected to field almost the same squad that they had last season. Here’s how the projected starting five looks for the Celtics:
Boston Celtics: Projected Starting Five + Stats
Position | Name | Points | Rebounds | Assists |
PG | Derrick White | 15.2 | 4.2 | 5.2 |
SG | Jaylen Brown | 23.0 | 5.3 | 2.4 |
SF | Jayson Tatum | 23.1 | 7.2 | 3.5 |
PF | Al Horford | 8.6 | 6.4 | 2.6 |
C | Kristaps Porzingis | 20.1 | 7.2 | 2.0 |
Porzingis is expected to take some time off the center position to begin the season as he is still recovering from his injury. However, there are high expectations that the team will actually come up with different rotations throughout the season, especially with Al Horford being set as the main center should Porzingis fail to return early in the season.
Key Player to Watch
For the Celtics, it is already said and done that they do have at least five all-stars in the squad. So far, we have seen Derrick White explode in the playoff stage, and so have Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Porzingis himself has seen some massive action in the NBA Finals, and of course, Al Horford’s heroics have been there for all to see.
However, it remains to be seen as to how Jrue Holiday will actually be a spark off the bench. The guard averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 69 games last season, and it cannot be denied that his impressive performances have become quite a staple in the Celtics so far. His impeccable impact on both ends of the floor has proven to be a huge boost, and one can say that they are indeed ready to take on the challenge with him as their main defensive anchor.
Another key player to watch for the Celtics would be their latest addition to the squad, Lonnie Walker IV. The former Brooklyn Nets guard played 58 games last season and averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, but he has been revered as one of the best sharpshooters in the game, noted for his dedicated performances in the clutch. It is easy to expect that Walker IV will be getting minutes off the bench as a secondary spark and reserve.
The Last Five Seasons
The last five seasons have been a promising story so far, the Celtics have experienced impressive strides in their games. The team has managed to come up with some great wins, and they even had some tough runs back then. Boston has lost in the Conference Finals in 2019-20 and in 2022-23, while they also had a lone first-round exit at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets in 2020-21. They did manage to make it to the NBA Finals in 2021-22, only to fall short of a promising victory against the Golden State Warriors.
Season | Record | Winning Percentage | Result |
2019-20 | 48-24 | .667 | Lost in Conference Finals |
2020-21 | 36-36 | .500 | Lost in First Round |
2021-22 | 51-31 | .622 | Lost in NBA Finals |
2022-23 | 57-25 | .695 | Lost in Conference Finals |
2023-24 | 64-18 | .780 | Won NBA Finals |
Finally, the Celtics managed to set a promising record in the 2023-24 season, and pushing all the way to the NBA Finals for a massive win, more than 10 years in the making. So far, this is the pace they are riding in the season – a chance to make history in the game again.
What to Expect from the Boston Celtics in the 2024-25 Season?
There are indeed high expectations for the Boston Celtics heading into the 2024-25 NBA season, and no one can deny the fact that they are even expected to win at this point, and being a defending champion means that pressure is all around them as well. Now more than ever, it is a chance that the Celtics must not pass up if they plan to make a splash in the season and begin a new dynasty.
