11 Celebrities Who Choose to Call New Jersey Home
We must admit, New Jersey isn’t the state that comes to mind when we think of celebrities. We often picture celebrities living in glamorous enclaves like Los Angeles, New York, and Miami.
We must admit, New Jersey isn’t the state that comes to mind when we think of celebrities. We often picture celebrities living in glamorous enclaves like Los Angeles, New York, and Miami.
But what many of us don’t know is that there is actually an increasing number of celebrities who choose to live far away from the spotlight and enjoy the peace and quiet that can only be found when you live in a smaller state. That being said, New Jersey has its own fair share of celebrities who shy away from the limelight, and these celebrities include great ones like Whitney Houston and Bruce Springsteen – but there is also a smattering of other, lesser-known figures that are superstars in their own right. If you want to see for yourself who has made New Jersey their home, read on: you just might be surprised!
Although the state has been the birthplace of numerous celebrities, among them John Travolta, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Danny DeVito, Shaquille O’Neal, and Martha Stewart (the list of NJ-born celebrities is as diverse as they come), not all of them reside in the state. Some have chosen their current homes and states based on proximity to their work, personal relationships, and preference. But there are those who, no matter how far they’ve come, still go back to their New Jersey roots, and they’re our focus today. Want to know where they live in New Jersey’s lush neighborhoods? Here, then, are the 11 celebrities who choose to call New Jersey home.
Though the Chairman of the Board is no longer among us, he continues to be one of the most famous greats to ever come out of the Garden State. He is still as remarkable as ever, and now, even if he is long gone, you can still see his statue at the Hoboken waterfront, where it will forever remain as a tribute to his astounding voice and charisma. Even though Mr. Sinatra left New Jersey to pursue fame and fortune elsewhere, the Hoboken native never forgot his roots. Today, fans can even join a Sinatra Walking Tour and get a glimpse of Frankie’s old haunts and even his family home on Hudson Street. He later moved to 137 Bergen Avenue when he married his sweetheart, Nancy, who was also a native of Jersey City - in fact, they met along the Jersey Shore. And although Frank Sinatra had numerous homes through the years, he first had a modest home in Bergen County, New Jersey, which he shared with his first wife and infant daughter.

Second on the list is the legend of mobster movies and any Scorsese film imaginable, Joe Pesci. Joe Pesci has all but retired from the limelight and chooses to spend his days in relative peace and quiet in a suburb of New Jersey. We last saw him in the Mafia movie The Irishman, which was released in 2019, but if you are out and about in Lavallette, New Jersey, you just might be lucky enough to run into the famous actor. His New Jersey home has a unique and intricate design, and has only a few corners on its façade (intriguing indeed!). Moreover, the side of Joe Pesci’s home that faces the bay is made entirely out of windows to give him an unobstructed view.

Bruce Springsteen is another music legend with strong ties to New Jersey – as a matter of fact, he is a New Jerseyan through and through, as he was born in the Garden State town of Long Branch. His home was once located in Rumson, New Jersey, and he also lived quite a peaceful existence in his 7-acre estate. Unfortunately, he sold it for over $3 million in 2017 and transferred to yet another estate (also in New Jersey) in Colts Neck. This home consists of 368 acres and has a stable for horses, and he lives there in quiet and tranquility; it’s his primary home.

Chris Rock is another celebrity who proudly lives in the Garden State. He is most renowned for his roles in movies such as Beverly Hills Cop (where another celebrity living in New Jersey was the main star, Eddie Murphy). But he became notably famous for the Will Smith debacle at the Academy Awards in 2022 – and since then, he has chosen to live in relative anonymity at his Englewood, NJ mansion. The mansion is spread across several lush acres - and it reportedly has a huge pool where Mr. Rock can relax and unwind. Better yet, it was previously owned by Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor, and it also has a home theater that seats 65 guests.

The next celebrity superstar on the list is none other than Eddie Murphy, who first gained recognition for his groundbreaking role in Coming to America. Murphy has also chosen to retire and live a peaceful existence in Haworth-Alpine, New Jersey, and while he was born in Brooklyn, he divides his time between the East and West coast. He also has a home in California, but he likes to spend his getaways in Alpine, too.

Stevie Wonder is a household name, particularly in the 1970s to the 1980s, but he has since semi-retired and loves to relax and recharge at his New Jersey home. Although the beloved musician became blind right after he was born, this didn’t stop him – in fact, he was credited with being the pioneer of R&B, and is truly talent personified, as he can play virtually any instrument he lays his hands on, from the harmonica to the piano to the bongos, conga, drums, clarinet, and more. He calls Alpine, New Jersey, home, and has reportedly lived in his New Jersey home since the late 1970s. He has also supposedly bought a home in Montclair.

Although Lil Kim’s popularity came at a later time compared to the others on this list, she is also a rapper, actress, model, and television personality in her own right. Lil Kim’s real name is actually Kimberly Denise Jones, and her home is in Alpine, New Jersey. The home has many bedrooms and it is over 6,000 square feet and is in a property measuring 2.08 acres.

Tracy Morgan is best known for his comedic style and timing in TV series’ like 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live, but he had a bad accident in 2014 – a car crash in New Jersey that left him with numerous injuries. Morgan has since recovered and is now living an idyllic existence in Alpine, New Jersey. He reportedly bought a mansion built on 2 acres of land, and it has a private drive and a gated entrance - and the brick home has a shark aquarium!

Jon Bon Jovi is another rock star born and bred in New Jersey in the town of Sayreville, and he continues to reside in his beloved home state. He lives in the area of Red Bank, and he has a modest two-story home that he built way back in 1999, at the peak of his popularity. He is a celebrated songwriter as well, but now, he chooses to rest and rejuvenate in his home and only goes on stage for occasional shows and concerts – he was reported to have declined a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere last year.

Wesley Snipes is another actor who has had his fair share of legal troubles and has even spent some time in prison, but he has bounced back and has taken on some new projects that display his acting prowess. But Snipes also calls New Jersey his home, and now lives in the town of Alpine with his third wife. As a matter of fact, this house is only one of several properties he owns in New Jersey, and it is sprawling, spread out over several acres as well.

Steven Spielberg is a well-known and even more well-respected filmmaker who has won multiple awards, and is known for being a screenwriter and even an actor. It goes without saying that Mr. Spielberg has many properties all over the United States – but his property in New Jersey has a special place in his heart. His home is located near Princeton University, and it is situated on top of a hill overlooking the town.
