We have seen this story from time to time as the Cleveland Guardians have continued to come up with impressive strides in the game, but it seems that this season is going to be a different story as the club now seeks to come up with a much more invigorated rally towards the top of the MLB world with a stronger campaign that will see them return to the big stage now more than ever.
What’s Different for the Cleveland Guardians This Season?
Aside from the fact that they have changed their names from the Indians to the Guardians, it does seem that the team has become quite a juggernaut in the game despite being a lowly club in the past few years, which says a lot about how the team has emerged into a promising contender to look out for. Still, it cannot be denied that Cleveland has somehow found ways to actually become a team that has a chance to contend at the top spot of the league, and here they are now. From losing in the ALDS to the Yankees in the 2022 season, the Guardians came up with a short and humble rebuild of their own after finishing with a 76-86 record in 2023 under manager Terry Francona before eventually retooling under Stephen Vogt.
Vogt is known well to be one of the brilliant minds in the game and has successfully built a new identity for the team, and their emergence seemed to be quite the impressive feat that the club has to be happy for at this point in time. Everyone is still waiting for the Guardians to come up with a massive stride in their games, and it is now evident that the club is ready to take on the challenge on the big stage, and after a long wait of tough losses and finishes, it is their time. We are now seeing a different version of the Guardians who are clearly capable of putting up massive wins at this point, and that is why fans should expect them to ride their way to the top of the league.
What Has Changed for the Guardians’ Hopes of a Title?
The Guardians have vastly improved in almost every facet of the game, which made them a clear pick to win in the World Series at this point in time. Halfway through the season, it does seem that the Guardians clearly have what it takes to deliver a promising finish now more than ever, and one can even say that this is their chance to prove their worth on the big stage now more than ever.
Here’s what impacted the chances for the Guardians’ hopes of a league title:
Emergence of Steven Robert Kwan
Steven Robert Kwan has been quite the secret weapon that many fans believe to be the key to their successes this season so far. His stint on the injured list has been quite unique for many fans considering that he was a massive talent at this point, and that actually helped pave the way for his rise to prominence in the game so far. As of the time of writing, Kwan has managed to upsize his performance levels with a jump in his batting average from .103 last year to .371 this season. The same can be said for his OPS .170 from .370 to .540, which has arguably made him a prime candidate for the AL MVP this season. Kwan is definitely a weapon who has what it takes to spark the offensive unit for the Guardians at this point in time.
Ramirez’s MVP Campaign Speaks Volumes for the Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians has been the best team to look out for in the 2024 season, and oner of the biggest reasons why they have managed to find ways to win is riding behind Jose Ramirez, who has been pulling off MVP performances in the game for the club. His impressive performances speaks volumes as to the level of play that the team is at right now. For those who are sleeping on the Guardians star, he is already slashing at a promising rate of .272/.327/.525 with 23 home runs and 77 RBI over 388 plate appearances thus far this season. The Guardians have surged to the top of the league now more than ever, and it seems that we can expect Ramirez to carry on the same pace to help Cleveland stay on top of their games at this point.
The Best Start for the Club Since 1995
It is worth noting that no critics even expected anything from the Guardians in the offseason when they finished the previous campaign with a 76-86 record last season. So when the team hired Stephen Vogt to replace Francona, no hype was really born out of it, and yet the team has enjoyed its best start to a season since 1995 where they enjoyed a record of 37-19. As of the time of writing, the Guardians are already set to eclipse a total of 60 wins heading into a week after the All-Star Break, which speaks volumes to the way they have improved their game. Cleveland is already at 450+ runs scored and is in the top 10 in pitching categories such as ERA, strikeouts, and even saves. All of these signs point towards a promising campaign that the team can hope for a title in the long run.
Can the Guardians Emerge at the Peak of the World Series?
There’s still a half of baseball left to play in the 2024 season, but it goes without saying that the Guardians are poised to come up with a promising campaign at this point. It cannot be denied that the team is already gearing up for a rally to remember, and maybe they can finally end their title drought that has been running for 76 years now. While Cleveland’s sports championship drought was already ended in 2016 (courtesy of the Cleveland Cavaliers), the Guardians winning this season should be a much bigger celebrated feat that many fans have been looking forward to.
