When we talk about the ‘Big Game,’ it could be any number of things – we could refer to the big games in the NHL, the greatest NFL games, or a few others. But truth be told, New Jerseyans have always had a special fondness for all kinds of games – be it hockey matches, football playoffs, or even just friendly neighborhood basketball games – these games will surely attract a crowd at any Garden State arena, field, or court. And it follows, therefore, that sports bars and lounges are big business in the state. Take any weekend afternoon or evening, and as long as there is any sort of game worth watching, chances are, there will be an audience at the bars and lounges that dot New Jersey. There’s no denying it: as New Jersey residents, we all love sports games, and we will bet on them every chance we get. But the big question still is, where do we go to watch our favorite games? We could easily watch in the comfort of our own abodes, but it’s just not the same ambiance as watching it on a big screen in our community bar or lounge amidst the cheers of a crowd.
But wait - we’ve decided to make it easier for you sports fans out there, and we have divided the sports bars into segments. There are, for instance, thousands of die-hard hockey fans in New Jersey, but it wouldn’t do to walk into a baseball sports game playing on the TV and miss the big hockey match, would it? If you’re all about the sports games, here, then, is your list of football, hockey, baseball, and basketball sports bars in New Jersey where you can watch the big game to your heart’s content.
Where to watch football in New Jersey
If you’re ready and raring to watch the NFL, you’re in New Jersey, and want nothing more than to share a few beers with your friends and enjoy the atmosphere of a friendly sports bar, look no further than these.
First on the list is Jack’s Goal Line Stand, which is located in Long Branch, New Jersey. The place is known for its cool, relaxed vibe, and you can just kick back, have a few brewskies, and watch your favorite NFL team battle it out on the field. Jack’s is on 149 Brighton Avenue, to be precise, and here, you can take advantage of the warm and cozy atmosphere along with excellent choices in craft beers. The second spot to leave all your worries behind is Asbury Ale House, on 531 Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park, and this place is ideal for watching an NFL game because of its 40 televisions coupled with amazing audio and video. As if this weren’t enough, Asbury Ale House also has some high-quality beers and the best sports entertainment in Jersey. Third on the list is Tailgater’s Sports Bar & Grille in Harbor City. The exact address of Tailgater’s is 337 W White Horse Pike in Egg Harbor City, and it takes special pride in being THE place to be for all NFL games – especially NFL Sundays! The sports bar has a great local craft beer selection along with great bar chow. But be warned, because the place can easily get crowded – which actually adds more to the fun vibe, if you ask us.
Where to watch hockey in New Jersey
Everyone knows how crazy New Jerseyans can get for hockey. Just like its neighbor, Pennsylvania, the Garden State goes wild for the sport. That said, for the hockey aficionados, there are indeed plenty of sports bars and lounges you can go to watch hockey, but these ones are a definite must-visit at least once.
First on the list is Game Time Bar and Grill at 110 Schanck Road in Freehold. This sports bar and lounge has it all, and get this: it’s located inside a theme park! What’s more fun than that? You can bring the whole family to while away the hours inside the park while you settle down and watch the game, and it serves some excellent food as well.
The second sports bar where you can watch your NHL game is Grasshopper Irish Bar in Morristown, New Jersey. The address of the Grasshopper Irish Bar is 41-43 Morris Street, and it’s recognized as a New Jersey Devils bar, so if you’re a Devils fan, you’ll have a rip-roaring good time! It’s the quintessential Irish pub – and it serves exceptional pints. Third on the roster is The Pig & Parrot, and it has two locations in New Jersey – one in Hoboken and another in Brielle. Its Hoboken location is at 77 Hudson Street, and it is at 201 Union Lane, Brielle. It’s also got an exciting selection of food and beers, and it has Game Day specials – so why not take advantage?
Where to watch baseball in New Jersey
Baseball may not have its greatest share of enthusiasts in New Jersey, unlike football or hockey, but if you’d like to watch a MLB game or two, look no further than these sports bars. First off, you can head to Wee Willie’s Sports Bar & Grill, in 37 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst. The sports bar & grill has a classic and nostalgic atmosphere, and it also has a whole lot of televisions where you can watch the big baseball game. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but if you’re looking for a good, old-fashioned bar with great food and beer, you can never go wrong with Wee Willie’s.
The second New Jersey bar and lounge you can visit to watch a baseball game is Joey McBride’s Pub in Woodland Park. Its address is easy to find, as it’s right on 1145 McBride Avenue (you can’t miss it), and Joey McBride’s is a NJ institution and is known for all kinds of sports, not just MLB. But it’s a great place to unwind, especially for its comfortable seats and its superb pub grub. Because the sports bar is larger than most, it’s also ideal for big groups. Third on the list is Chickie & Pete’s in Marlton, and its address is at 25 NJ-73 – right inside the Marlton Crossing Shopping Center. It has a casual vibe, but don’t be fooled – the pub food is out-of-this-world, and don’t forget to order the crab fries.
Where to watch basketball in New Jersey
You may not be aware of it, but New Jersey’s got some serious NBA followers, and there are also a few sports bars and lounges where you can watch and enjoy some NBA games. These bars even have some special NBA offers and events, so make sure you don’t miss out. First is the Blitz Sports Bar in Newark, and it can be found at 5317, 179 Wilson Avenue. If you have a whole day to watch, why not spend it at the Blitz Bar? It’s got plenty of televisions, but it also has a pool table. The sports bar closes at 2 in the morning, which makes it the perfect spot to enjoy lunch and dinner and catch up with the guys.
The 2nd spot goes to Moore’s Tavern & Sports Bar, at 402 West Main Street, in Freehold. It has a lively atmosphere where you can enjoy NBA game or two, and the place even has live music at night. It serves wood-fired pizza (a must-try) and is the perfect destination for a great time. The third place where you can watch your favorite basketball game is the Bar One Public House, at 560 Fairview Avenue, Fairview. If you want nothing more than to sit, relax, and watch NBA game, you’ve come to the right place. The beers are affordable, the finger food is good – what more can you ask for?
There are plenty of sports bars and lounges in New Jersey, that’s for sure – but if you want to find a place where you can have a truly memorable time, these bars and lounges are the place to be. New Jersey is a definite haven for sports enthusiasts, as it offers a plethora of sports bars and lounges tailored to fans of football, hockey, baseball, basketball, and more. Regardless if you’re looking to cheer for your favorite NFL team amidst the camaraderie of fellow fans at Jack’s Goal Line Stand or soak in the electrifying atmosphere of an NHL game at Game Time Bar and Grill, there’s a spot for every sports lover.
From the classic charm of Wee Willie’s Sports Bar & Grill for baseball aficionados to the buzz and energy of Blitz Sports Bar for basketball devotees, these venues provide more than just large screens and cold beers - they offer a sense of community and shared passion that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. Each bar has its unique vibe, food offerings, and game-day specials, ensuring there’s something for everyone, no matter the sport.
The next time you’re ready to watch the big game, skip the couch and head to one of these fantastic sports bars in the Garden State. Not only will you experience the thrill of the game on a grander scale - but you’ll also create unforgettable memories surrounded by fellow fans who share your enthusiasm. So cheers to great games, delicious food, and unforgettable moments at New Jersey’s best sports bars and lounges!
