Jalen Williams has been one of the shining players for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, and it cannot be denied that he is starting to be in the conversations bigger than what regular players can dream of – being included into the All-Star. But what if you wagered on something more interesting, like over and unders?
What are Over and Unders?
Over/under betting is one of the most popular betting markets not just in basketball, but in almost every single sport that you may know of. For this market, players must put a wager on an over or under bet, predicting whether a player, a team, or a game in a whole will exceed the total number of points scored. Over the years, this market was only focused on the total points scored, but later innovations opened up options to bet on other statistics.
These included the secondary stats that you see in basketball, such as assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks. There are even other sites where field goals made and attempted, including three-pointers – are all included on the betting options so far. This opened up a bigger market and made it exciting for a lot of bettors to enjoy their experience in the long run.
Lots of winnings have been made on the account of placing wagers on over/under markets. However, it is worth noting that not everyone wins big on the over/under, and there are definitely a lot of risks that can be perceived in the bets considering how well this can easily be trumped by a player who is either playing at a high level or suddenly underperforms – or worse, gets injured.
The Jalen Williams Dilemma
Jalen Williams has been one of the most consistent players in the NBA this season for the Thunder, and it is hard to argue that he really is on a pace to come up with a massive growth in his games. That says a lot about how it is expected for the Thunder forward to actually be a good pick for betting on over/under markets with the way he has grown exceptionally in the 2024-25 season.
As of the time of writing, Williams is averaging 20.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 2.1 steals per game – all while shooting 51.3% from the field, including a whopping 42.1% from three. This just says a lot about how he is certainly on a massive leap for OKC – but if you are already excited – let’s get you excited even more.
Chet Holmgren was declared out for at least 8 to 10 weeks of action for the Thunder after suffering a pelvic injury in the Thunder’s November 11 game against the Warriors. With Isaiah Hartenstein (hand) and Jaylin Williams (hamstring) still yet to return, Oklahoma City resolved to divert its lineup into a small-ball, with Williams serving as a center for the team.
Betting Over/Under On Williams
J-dub has been the starting center for OKC ever since Holmgren went down with an injury, and in his first two games, he has led the Thunder to a 2-0 record and has played at a consistent level from that front. While it is a small sample size to consider, that leap has been clearly a promising note for him.
Before becoming OKC’s starting center, Williams has scored 25+ points only once. Since then, he’s scored back-to-back games of more than 25+ points and has been really efficient on both ends of the floor. With that being said, let’s try to place some wagers on J-dub’s stat lines. Make sure to check out GambleSpot’s Parlay and Odds Calculator to get a grasp of your potential winnings when you place multiple bets on the Thunder and Jalen Williams.
Points - Over 25.5
At this point, expect production for Williams to increase with the way the Thunder is relying on both him and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to carry the load. As said before, Williams has been scoring at a higher level – quietly pushing his pace as the center of the team until one of the team’s big men return. It is safe to say that increased production will allow him to score bigger points than his average, and and over 25 bet can be the perfect option to consider at this point in time.
Rebounds - Over 7.5
Being the center of the team means establishing a strong presence in the paint and also crashing the boards. Considering his 6-foot-6 frame and almost 7-foot wingspan, it does seem wise to bet on him to increase and ramp up his presence on the glass. He’s been quite spectacular on battling on the glass and has found ways to thrive and come up with impressive performances on the defensive end, ensuring that he can get as much boards at at least over 7.5.
Assists - Under 8.5
Alongside SGA and even rookie Ajay Mitchell, Jalen Williams has been on the production end when it comes to creating plays for the team. He has been really phenomenal in running plays and setting up his teammates whenever he has the chance. OKC’s passing lanes has been really fun to watch, and it cannot be denied that Williams’ involvement on that end really spiked up with Josh Giddey also out of the equation. At this point, he can definitely rack up to less than eight assists per night if he continues to play at the same level.
Make the Most of Your Over/Under Bets with J-Dub!
Jalen Williams is expected to hold the fort until one of OKC’s centers return. Hartenstein is expected to be back by December, Holmgren is slated to return by January or later, while Williams (J-Will) is expected to come back last. Until then, fans and keen players can enjoy and make the most of their chances and win handsome rewards in the long run!
