Notably, Mohegan stands out as the only gaming company to make the list, landing in 77th place.

Employee satisfaction at Mohegan Sun: more than just a job

Employees at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut have expressed high levels of job satisfaction and optimism about their career prospects, according to a recent survey by the BPI. BPI, the leadership development and human resources consultancy, based in Florida, polled over two million employees to gauge their sentiments about their jobs. The comprehensive interviews and questionnaires culminated in the top 100 companies to work for, with Mohegan earning a distinguished place.

Ray Pineault, the CEO and president of Mohegan, remarked on the honor, saying: "It is a great privilege for Mohegan to be recognized in Newsweek's Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces. This recognition underscores our dedication to fostering a positive and engaging workplace.

Mohegan's commitment to employee engagement

Formerly known as Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment until its rebranding in May 2022, Mohegan is the gaming arm fully owned by the Mohegan Tribe in Connecticut. The company has been praised for its robust employee engagement initiatives and commitment to career development.

The Best Practice Institute's survey assessed various aspects of employee sentiment, including how workers feel about their opportunities for career advancement, future prospects at the company, mutual respect in the workplace, and employee values. Additionally, the criteria emphasized diversity, wellness, and inclusion within the workplace.

According to the BPI survey, Mohegan offers a diverse array of opportunities for voices to be heard by conducting traditional staff meetings, team member engagement surveys, regular team member updates and town halls, as well as Kaizen events and opportunities for breakfast with the president. In addition, BPI added, Mohegan offers excellent opportunities for promotions and transfers, in-house training programs, tuition reimbursement, as well as off-site seminars to support workers who aim to make their career choices compatible with their own unique knowledge, skills, interests, and personalities.

Mohegan's inclusion on the Global Most Loved Workplaces list is particularly noteworthy as it is the only gaming company to be featured. Among other hospitality companies, for example, only Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, ranked at No. 19, shares this recognition.

Mohegan employs over 11,000 people globally, with nearly 8,000 working at its foremost property, Mohegan Sun resort, located in Uncasville, Connecticut. The company's workforce is indeed instrumental in maintaining its reputation as a premier employer in the gaming industry.

Expanding horizons: Mohegan's global reach

Most people aren't aware that the origins of Mohegan trace back to the early 1990s when the Mohegan Tribe opened Mohegan Sun and turned it into a bingo hall. Since then, the property has gone through a series of extensive expansions to become one of the biggest integrated resort casinos globally. Now, Mohegan Sun boasts over 300,000 sq. ft. of casino space, 130,000 sq. ft. dedicated to retail shopping, two hotels with a grand total of over 1500 guestrooms, three entertainment venues, more than 45 restaurants and bars, and 375,000 sq. ft. of function rooms and meeting spaces. But it doesn't end there: additional attractions within the resort include two full spas, two indoor pools and an indoor waterfall, and a large outdoor sun terrace.

Aside from its Connecticut base, Mohegan runs several other properties, including Mohegan Pennsylvania (in the Pocono Mountains), ilani Casino in Washington, and the Casino Niagara and Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls. The company also manages Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas and Resorts in Atlantic City, though these agreements are nearing their conclusion.

Mohegan's strategic focus is now on international expansion, particularly in South Korea. Last autumn, Mohegan inaugurated the first phase of Inspire Entertainment Resort, located at Incheon International Airport. This $1.6 billion fully-integrated resort features over 1,200 guest rooms and suites, several restaurants, an entertainment walk, and an events center and arena built to accommodate 15,000 people.

Governor Phil Murphy Signs Executive Order to Establish Responsible Gaming Task Force in NJ

In a significant move aimed at addressing problem gambling, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy authorized Executive Order No. 360 last week, officially creating the Responsible Gaming Task Force for both retail and online casinos in the state. This task force is charged with advising the Attorney General and the Governor’s Office on necessary reforms that will support practices towards responsible gaming and mitigate the risks associated with problem gambling in the state.

"New Jersey is known to be a gaming destination with historic locations like Atlantic City, amusement gaming at the Jersey Shore, notable horse racing venues, and more," states Murphy. With the creation of this Task Force, NJ can effectively maintain its global leadership when it comes to gaming as it ensures that it has the tools necessary to address its residents’ problem gambling needs and requirements, Murphy was quick to add.

Factors that led to the creation of the Task Force

One of the primary catalysts for the Task Force initiative was a 2023 study conducted by Rutgers University, which highlighted the prevalence of problem gambling within the Garden State. As a matter of fact, the study's findings underscored the urgent need for a dedicated body to oversee and recommend strategies for responsible gaming.

The newly-formed Responsible Gaming Task Force will comprise seven representatives from the New Jersey government, each bringing their own unique perspective as well as their expertise to the table. These members include:

The Director of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs
The Chair of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission
The Director of the Division of State Lottery
The Director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement

The task force is due to submit its first report to Governor Murphy on the 31st of March, 2025. During this period, the task force is expected to consult with delegates of regulated entities, experts in the industry, and other specialists and professionals to gather comprehensive insights and formulate effective recommendations.

Key officials are well pleased with the creation of the governing body

State Attorney General Matthew Platkin praised Governor Murphy for his proactive stance on responsible gaming. “I applaud Governor Murphy for his leadership in elevating responsible gaming initiatives through the establishment of a statewide task force,” Platkin said. He added that New Jersey has been a leader in sports wagering and casino betting for years, and it owes it to its residents to expand and review its existing efforts and strategies on problem gambling.

Zaccharie Risacher Sets NBA Draft Trend Selected 1st Overall by Atlanta

After Victor Wembanyama became the first French player to be drafted 1st overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, French teen Zaccharie Risacher was brought in by the Atlanta Hawks to kick off the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, which sets a promising precedence in the history of the league.

While the Atlanta Hawks are stacked with guards already at star level in Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, it does seem that Risacher comes in as a foundational player in the squad – a team that won a playoff series ever since making it to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals. There were rumors of the Hawks trading down considering that they don’t really need the 1st overall pick and was hoping for more selections, but GM Landry Fields took advantage of the pick and drafted Risacher.

To be fair, the consensus nearly favored yet another French star in Alex Sarr, who is another 7-footer who is expected to continue the trend of tall centers in the NBA. Other options for the Hawks could have ended up in UConn’s Donovan Clingan and Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard.

Atlanta’s Questionable Selection

The Atlanta Hawks had a 3% chance of landing the top pick in the lottery, but it did seem that the team didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to get a prime talent. The Hawks were essentially trading for the 1st pick, but he nearly considered giving it away with the lack of future trades for the team.

Risacher was named the Best Young PLayer for the 2023-24 LNB Elite season, finishing the campaign with averages of 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 22 minutes of action per game. The forward has a flurry of awards in his career, being named the EuroCup Rising Star in the previous season and was an LNB Elite champion back in 2022.

1st overall pick was also selected to the France Senior Team for the upcoming EuroBasket 2025 campaign. He has represented the country for both the U19 and U17 World Cups and finished with silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Other Draft Happenings

The Washington Wizards went on to bring in Alex Sarr with the 2nd pick, while Sheppard was drafted by the Rockets. Notably, Clingan was selected by the Trail Blazers with the 7th pick, while the Memphis Grizzlies brought in Zach Edey with the 9th pick. Cody Williams, who was also hyped to be a perfect fit for the Hawks, was selected by the Utah Jazz with the 10th overall pick.

Some of the notable trades in the first round was Rob Dillingham, who was selected by the Spurs with the 8th overall pick. The Kentucky product was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for future draft picks. On top of that, Dillon Jones was drafted by the Wizards with the 26th pick, before he was subsequently traded to the New York Knicks, who would then send the Weber State product to Oklahoma City in exchange for five second-round picks.

The second round of the 2024 NBA Draft will continue tomorrow with 28 picks set to be made. It is worth noting that the Phoenix Suns and the Philadelphia 76ers have lost their second-round picks due to League penalty. The Trail Blazers, Pacers, and Grizzlies all have two or more picks in the coming round, which should lead to potential trades in the Draft Night.

Poker Room at Caesars Palace to Close Temporarily

June 26, 2024 – The poker room at Caesars Palace will be closed for several months. The poker room at Caesars is the temporary high-limit area that they are required to accommodate while the high-limit slot parlor undergoes a substantial renovation so as not to interfere with business.

As part of a refurbishment project, the resort is anticipated to close the 18-table room around July 17. The high-limit slot section of the casino will be renovated, and its current location will be temporarily moved to the slot area. It's unclear when the poker room will reopen following the makeover, which is anticipated to take two to three months.

“Caesars is looking to find a temporary home for the poker room during the high-limit remodeling process, but a space hasn’t yet been chosen, and there’s no guarantee at this point that the casino will find a spot.” A representative from Caesars said.

Employees at the site are worried that they might lose their jobs, however, management will provide information to staff once the plans are finalized. Since the outbreak, a number of other poker rooms have closed, including Binion's, Treasure Island, Tropicana, and the Mirage.

Desmond King Remains Confident with Houstons Chances Next Season

No one can deny the fact that Desmond King’s faith in the Houston Texans this season has been quite the promise that many fans would expect from a veteran who has been on the prowl so far. When he joined Houston four years ago, it was far from a contender team that had what it takes to deliver a run towards the big stage of the NFL.

Well, it does seem that the times have changed, and King is now more eager to take on the challenge after some promising strides they have seen in the 2023 campaign, and it does seem that the Texans are even one of the heavy favorites to look out for after what seems to be a promising offseason where they have made some good signings as well.

At this point, it is easy to be impressed the way King is for the Texans. A team that has been criticized heavily for not being able to come up with massive runs in the NFL has now enjoyed some good strides in the past few years with some good notions in their games so far, which says a lot about how well they have improved in just a short span of time.

King’s Renewed Confidence with Houston

It cannot be denied that patience has paid off for King. He came into Houston as a veteran when the Steelers didn’t want him back, and he initially provided his best guidance and veteran leadership in the team. Still, the 2021 and 2022 seasons proved to be crucial in the team’s development, with Houston becoming quite a developing team with young players, despite enduring finishes at a lowly level.

It was not quite a good experience for players who have a lot to offer on the big stage. Going 4-13 and 3-13-1 finishes in 2021 and 2022 under the direction of two different head coaches seemed to be quite a stretch, and yet King endured before trying with the Steelers. It didn’t work out, and when he returned with the Texans, it was now the perfect time for them to jive together.

"I wouldn't say that's the only reason I'm back," King said in an interview. "I'm going on my fourth year in Houston. I've done seen the evolution of the team and the organization just being here for those first couple of years and seeing where it's at now, knowing my capability and what I can bring to the team, why not be here with Houston? We're an up-and-coming team and we're here to stay. We're just getting ready for the season and I'm here."

Setting Expectations for the Texans

The Texans finished with a 10-7 record in the previous season, which saw them come up with their first AFC South title and playoff win since 2019. It was a success in the making, and the Houston Texans have been waiting for, and you could feel the crowd roaring when they played their games considering that it was the best they have been for almost half a decade.

The addition of quarterback CJ Stroud has also proven to be a massive swing in the team’s climb to the top. That was one of the biggest reasons why King had zero doubts about returning to the Texans once more.

"Just honestly, it's all about staying focused on the goal," King said. "We know what kind of team we have. That said, you see it every day in the locker room. Nets Agree to Send Mikal Bridges to Knicks Receive Bounty Chest of Draft Picks

It is official. The New York Knicks are reuniting Mikal Bridges with his Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo after agreeing to a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. The Knicks are sending Bojan Bogdanovic along with four unprotected first-round picks, a protected first-round pick via Bucks, an unprotected pick swap, and a second-rounder.

This comes as a massive shift for the Knicks, who are looking to retool its squad with the hopes of getting back to the top of the league after missing out on a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals when they lost to the Indiana Pacers in Game 7. Armed with a two-way guard in Bridges, it does seem that they are on the way to bigger development this offseason.

This addresses the need for the Brooklyn Nets, who did not have a draft pick until 2026 prior to the trade. The deal gives them a total of five first-round picks, a pick swap, and a second-round pick. So far, these picks will convey starting 2025, and will be there until 2028, which is the protected pick swap.

A New Dawn for the Knicks

For those who didn’t know, Brunson, Bridges, Hart, and DiVincenzo spent three seasons at Villanova together and went on to win a total of two national championships there. The Knicks have suffered a lot of injuries during the playoffs, and adding an Iron Man player in Mikal Bridges would be a good note, especially when he has not missed a game since entering the league. Bridges played a total of 82 games last season and was averaging 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists for the Nets, which was his first full season since being traded from the Phoenix Suns.

The Knicks would have to come up with some changes in the squad still. OG Anunoby is coming in as a free agent this July, and with Bridges now in the squad, it does seem that there are still some unknowns whether Anunoby would be signed or not. The Knicks are slated to enter the 2024-25 season with a 25-year drought the Eastern Conference Finals, and fans are hoping to see Bridges be the spark who can help the Knicks reach that stage.

Nets Surging for Bigger Hopes

The Brooklyn Nets have also engaged in a deal after sending Bridges to New York, this time earning more picks to bring in some picks with the Houston Rockets. Houston is said to acquire the favorable first-rounders from Dallas and Phoenix after the Nets returned the 2026 first-rounder in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick from the Suns.

For the Nets, this comes as a favorable exchange as it means that they can position themselves in the coming years and structure a much more favorable rebuild. Let’s not forget the fact that the Nets are keen to make the most of the coming seasons in the hopes of finding value in their players to make some key trades in the long run.

For the Rockets, however, the goal is to bring in Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant in a future trade. While the Suns have already stated that they are not open to trading Durant, the Rockets are now armed with a luxury of picks that can possibly sway the Suns to bring in Durant in the long run.

June 25, 2024 – With a Powerball of 21, the winning white numbers were 4, 5, 15, 32, and 62. However, the Powerball jackpot has not been claimed once more, some players have still managed to win large sums of money.

At the time of the June 22 draw, the jackpot stood at almost $73 million, with a lump cash value of $35.2 million. The winner of the jackpot was guaranteed a life-changing opportunity. Nevertheless, nobody could accurately match the red Powerball with all five white numbers, so the reward kept increasing.

The winning white numbers were 4, 5, 15, 32, and 62, with the red Powerball at 21. Two players matched all white numbers, winning $1 million each where winners hailed from Ohio and Virginia.

The Ohio ticket was sold to a Giant Eagle customer in Akron, turning a grocery trip into a $1 million win. Similarly, a Virginia customer also matched all white numbers, earning $1 million. Neither winner had Power Play active, which would have doubled their prize to $2 million.

More Powerball Prizes Awarded

Seven players won $50,000 each by correctly guessing four white numbers and the Powerball. Four additional players with Power Play activated won $100,000 each.
